Ralph Winters



Ralph Edwin Winters was born in Noble Township, La Porte County, Indiana near Union Mills, to Carl and Edna (Bailey) Winters.


Ralph passed away on August 15 at the age of 83. Ralph died at South Bend Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at the intersection of SR-110 & US-31 in Fulton County that same day.

Ralph graduated from Monterey High School in 1954 and from Purdue University in 1959. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers until 1963 as a First Lieutenant.

Ralph and family returned to the Monterey area. Ralph worked in a variety of professions. At the age of 57 he devoted himself to Culver Storage where his entrepreneurial spirit thrived for 25 years. Ralph was active in civic organizations, he was a former board member of the Culver Town Council.

He is a founding member of Kiwanis Club of Culver in 1984. Ralph was convinced education is the path out of poverty, Ralph created a scholarship fund "The Ralph E. Winters Scholarship" managed by the Community Foundation of Pulaski County, and "The Barbara Winters Award for Excellence" through the Culver Kiwanis. In keeping with his passionate support of education he also served on the Board of Directors for Ancilla College.

He is survived by his spouse Barbara Winters (Dilts) of 63 years, children Craig and Janet and granddaughters Colleen and Courtney.

Ralph was preceded by his parents, and brothers Alvin and Allen.

Visitation at Saint Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, Culver, and services at in the sanctuary.
