The way it was before 1957-1958. In the background is a view of the Dillion property on the south side of State Road 10 where the Culver Storage Units, the now empty motorcycle shop and the Ten Spot, now empty also is. The houses on the horizon is college Avenue homes.

    This week in Culver brings about the opening of winkler's automotive service which is located on state road 10 just west of the road's intersection with of road 17 (Dillon' corner)

    Harry D. Winkler, owner and operator of the new buisness establishment, is well known throughout the community having operated the Shell Service Station on Lake Shore drive in Culver for a number of years. He also served a four year term as town clerk-treasurer.

    "Wink" as he is popularly known is well qualified in this field, having been an instructor of auto mechanics for eight seasons at the Culver Summer Schools.

    Winkler's Automotice Service offers all kinds of general automotive work, tune-up, brake service, overhaul, etc., with weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 85 p.m.; Saturdays included. See your invitation to inpspect these new facilities in the firm's 1/2 page ad in this week's Citizen.

1979 - Maxinkuckee Home Supply Affiliates With HWI

    Maxinkuckee Home Supply will open a new garden center to be known as Maxinkuckee Lawn and Garden Center in their east buillding. It will be managed by Mr. and Mrs. Rick Spencer. The new store will feature Bolens mowers, ride mowers and garden tractors, Homelite Chain Saws, Scott’s fertilizers and lawn seeds as well as garden plants , tools and other related items. Rick Spencer is trained to repair all small engines.

1979 - Nov. 15 - New Heirloom Shop To Open
    Culver - Two local artists, Peggy Clark and Emma Lou Martin are offering their services to the public with the opening of a new shop called, “ Heirlooms. "

    Located in the former Maxinkuckee Home Supply building across from the site of the new bowling alley on State Roads 10 and 17, the two ladies are engaged in the preservation and restoration of heirlooms and the creation of art objects.

    They state that their prices will be very competitive at the shop and they will offer art supplies, custom framing, easel back portrait frames, custom hand stenciling and tole painting on tin ware or furniture to match your decor.

    They have very special colonial type dried flower arrangements. They also restore oil paintings and both artists can be commissioned to paint local scenes or portraits or any subject or landscape.

    Original paintings are on sale at Heirlooms and they also refinish furniture. They handle a beautiful selection of hand crafted items for your home for Christmas gifts. Heirlooms will open during the week of Thanksgiving and the hours will be weekdays from 10 a.m. td 4:30 p.m. or they may be reached for weekend appointments by calling 842-2656 or 842-2213

    The building was added on to to make room for Lumber Storage and wood workign shop during the years of Maxinkuckee Home Supply

    In the 1990's they moved to two doors down to 18591 St. Rd. 10.

This was originally only half the size being all concrete block; the back half - tall section was added by Maxinkuckee Home Supply as a lumber storage shed and worrkshop. As stated above this is where Culver Power Equipment started out in business.


2013 - Max's Playhouse - Brandy Pohl

    Coming May 2013 - presently being renovated. The new daycare, at 18561 State Road 10, is undergoing finishing touches in preparation for a Saturday, April 27 open house (from 9 a.m. to noon), preceding a probable May 13 opening day. Pohl encourages everyone to come meet the staff (two full-time and two part-time members in addition to Pohl herself), enjoy some light snacks, and tour Culver's newest business venture

    To be a fully licensed childcare center. It will accommodate 6 weeks to 36 month old children in one area, and 3 to 6 year olds in another. The daycare can take up to eight infants (though only three at a time) and 24 preschoolers, and hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

18561 St Rd. 10 Is actually the storage sheds (highlighted in yellow and blue)- during the tenure of the building at 18571 St. Rd. 17/ Max's Playhouse which ad the same address number by their website
    Note both the Culver Storage Units (long & narrow & highlighted in yellow) Units #1, #2, & #3 which surround building #1 which is a part of the 18571 St. Rd. 10 address and yet has to be subdived off; in photo two with buildings label #1 (built in mid 1950's as an automotive repair shop, see above) and #2 (was built in the 1970's as a hardware) & home Supply .


The building to the right the black/gray building labeled #1 houses "Max Playhouse" and its ads & website during their time of occupancy stated the address as "18561 St. Rd 10 " which conflicts with the address of Osborn Rentals LLC in offical land records which is considered "legal addresses" and as yet it is still listed as part of this property of 18571 St Rd. 10.

    2022 - Feb 9 - Due to the rise of meat of prices and lack of employees we are permanently closing the restaurant. We will still be available for catering and will do stands on the weekends in the following months to come.
