The building that housed that housed that business since the 1980's would be razed under a proposal presented by Tricia Small, whose family operates a handful of hardware stores in the area.

A site plan review for the CUlver project was presented at the Feb 16th meeting which approved moving forward with the plan with the caveat that representatives of the business must come back with information on size, location and other details regarding of their signage before it can be installed at the site.

Leading up to the proposal the town council had already approved running municipal storm water lines to the site, with jetting off the sorm sewer at the Forest Place Apartments in exchange for an easement on a small portion of the latter's property to allow new pipes to be run to accomodate the new hardware.

2017 - Teghtmeyer Ace Hardware -
    The History of Ace Hardware

"The Ace Hardware" name originated from the Ace Hardware Corporation- a buying group started in 1924 by four independent Chicago area retailers. These four retailers made a decision that they could be more productive and competitive working together rather than separately. Today Ace Hardware Corporation, headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, is an international retail support company.

    Our Local History

In 1944, Earl and Margaret Teghtmeyer purchased Ginder's Hardware in Columbia City, Indiana. In 1963, they became affiliated with Ace Hardware Corporation and took on the name Teghtmeyer Ace Hardware. At the time, the store was situated in a building right downtown in Columbia City.

In 1966, at the time of Earl's death, their son James Earl "Jim" Teghtmeyer purchased the store from Earl's estate. From 1966-1999 Jim Teghtmeyer was the sole owner/operator.

In October of 1988, Jim moved the store from downtown to its current location on Diplomat Dr. This move expanded the store to a 12,000 sq ft building.

In 1999, Jim passed away, leaving ownership to his three daughters. Lorelei Pfeiffer, Alicia Burnsworth Johnson, and Nickey Teghtmeyer. In 2004, the store was expanded again to its current size of 22,000 sq ft. The current store holds an inventory with a strong mix of hardware, tools, electrical supplies, plumbing supplies and fittings, paint, toys, sporting goods, marine equipment, housewares, automotive accessories, lawn and garden, and a seasonal green house.

In June 2010, Lorelei Pfeiffer passed away, leaving ownership of the store to Jim's two surviving daughters, Alicia Johnson and Nickey Teghtmeyer.
