Lewis Hartman was born near Tiffin, Ohio, August 27, 1834, died Dec. 11, 1904 aged 70 years 3
months and 14 days.
He moved to his late home near Rutland in 1866
Oct 27 1861 he was united in marraige to Miss Sarah Hawk. To this union two sons and five
daughters were born. Emma preceded the father to the spirit world by four hours and Lucy J.
died in infancy.
The wife, five children, one brother survive him.
Mr. Hartman was a member of the Reformed church, a kind husband and father and a exemplary

Lewis Hartman, father of Mrs. Cavender, died near Rutland on the same day.

Emma Estella Hartman, eldest daughter of Lewis and Sarah Hartman, was born near Tiffin,
Ohio January 16, 1883 died Dec 11, 1904.
She was married to Solomon Cavender, Sept. 15, 1881.
To them four sons and three daughters were born one daughter dying in infancy.
She was untied with the Methodist church soon after he marriage and has ever been a
consistent member.
The mother of six children, two brothers and three sisters mourn the loss of a loved one.

Solomon Cavender was born in Starke county Ohio March 11, 1849 and died October 1 1911 in
his 63d year.
It the beginning of the civil war, when but a lad of 15 years, he enlisted and remained in
the service until the close of the war.
A few years later he came to Indiana
He was married to Emma E Hartman of Rutland Sept 25, 1881.
To them were born six children - Claude C. of Plymouth, Henry W of Mishawaka,
Arthur R of Chicago, Russell of Milroy, Esther M and Mary L of Knightstown.
Soon after his marrage he united with the M. E. church at Popular Grove and was an
efficient worker in every department of the church, giving many years of excellent
service.
The funeral was held a Poplar Grove on Wednesday at 2 o'clock, the service being
conducted by Re.v Yager, pastor of the U.B. church in Plymouthy.
The commardes Henry Speyer post read their beautiful sevice for the dead before
the remains were laid to rest beside his companion who preceded him to the
spirit world.

Mrs. Susan Borror, aged 66, of 1017 East Indiana avenue died in her home At 2:.50 p.m. Sunday after three weeks
illness.
She leaves a son, Ralph Borror, of South Bend; a son-in-law, Dale T. Niven of South Bend; three grandchildren, and
two brothers , William and Frank Hartman, Rutland, Ind.
Friends may call at the residence this afternoon and tonight and until funeral services at 4 p. m. Tuesday in Ridgedale
Presbyterian church.
Prayer services will he held in the residence at 3:30 p. m. Tuesday, Rev. Jerome E. Webber, pastor of Ridgedale
church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Borror was born in Marshall county, Indiana, March 12, 1874, and came here 28 years ago from Harris, Ind.
She was married in South Bend in 1895 to Franklin Borror, who died there 20 years ago.”

Frank C. Borror, 1017 East Indiana avenue, died Friday following an illness of a year as a result of a stroke of
apoplexy.
He was born in Columbus, O. March 23, 1864, and was 53 years old at the time of his death.
He had been a resident of South Bend for the past 8 years, having come here from Plymouth, Ind. Until the
time of his last illness he was employed as an inspector in a local veneer factory.
He is survived by is wife, Susan A. Borror; two children, Ralph Borror and Mrs. Dale Niven of this city; two
brothers, William and Louis Borror; and two sisters, Mrs. H. O’Connor and Mrs. S. Sluss of South Bend.
The funeral will be held at the residence Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev, Edwin Meister, officiating.
Burial will be made in the Highland Cemetery

Resident dies of injuries. Police investigate report of fight at hotel.
Dale Nivens, 75, of 223 1/2 N. Michigan St., died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital where he had
been a patient since Nov. 17.
Nivens was taken to the hospital from his room at the State Hotel after he suffered a broken leg and pelvis,
reportedly in a fight with another hotel resident that followed an argument there, police learned from a
hotel employee. The employee, Charles Andrews, 628 W. LaSalle Ave., told police investigating the incident
Nov. 20 that Nivens and the other resident struggled on the floor. Nivens then complained of leg pains,
Andrews said, and a private ambulance was called. Police had no record of the incident Nov. 17.
Investigation was begun Nov. 20 after a relative of Nivens, his nephew, Howard E. Nivens, of 1253 Woodward
Ave., requested information, according to police records. Detectives are still investigating the case, according
to police and an autopsy has been scheduled, the hospital said later Tuesday.
Niven, a retired Studebaker Corp. employee was born on Sept. 9, 1893 in South Bend.
In October, 1913, he married Hazel G. Borror, who died in 1935. Surviving are two sons, Michael and Patirck,
both of South Bend: two daughters, Mrs. Louise McKee of Orland, Ind., and Mrs. Emily Eckenbager of South
Bend; three grandchildren; a brother, Howard, of South Bend; and two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Mullaney of
Englewood, Fla., and Mrs. Edna Golba. of Mishawaka.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Orvis Funeral Home, where services will be held at I p.m. Friday
with Rev. C. Franklin Bruce, pastor of Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland
Cemetery

Louise was born in South Bend on Feb. 12, 1917, and lived here until 1968 when she moved to Orland,
Ind., where she lived until 1993 when she moved back to South Bend.
As Laura Louise Nivens she married Glenn R. McKee in South Bend on July 23, 1938. He died in 1990.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dale T. and Hazel Borror Nivens; and by a sister, Eleanor
Nivens. Mrs. McKee is survived by a daughter, Susan A. Bennett of South Bend; two sons, Timothy C.
(Linda) McKee of Chesapeake, Va., and Daniel R. McKee of Nashville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Laura
Sue Bennett of South Bend, Robert D. (Niki) Bennett of South Bend and Brandon McKee of Chesapeake;
and by two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Bennett and Brian J. Bennett.
Louise was a member and very active in Ridgedale Presbyterian Church in South Bend while she lived here,
and with the Orland Congregational Church of Orland. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the
American Legion, Orland.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street,
Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Mark Emelander

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.

Glenn R. McKee, 77, of Orland, died Saturday, September 1, 1990, in Cameron Memorial Hospital in
Angola.
He was born August 19, 1913, the son of Guy and Luella (James) McKee. McKee, a navy veteran of
World War II, retired from the Campbell Soup Company.
He and his wife, Laura Louise, were married July 23, 1938.
She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Susan Bennett of South Bend; two sons, Tim of Chesapeake,
VA., and Daniel of Brown County; a brother, Leo of Fremont, Ohio, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Orland Congregational Church with the Rev.
Mark Emlander officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in South Bend with military rites. Beams Funeral Home was in charge

Lawrence Hartman, 62, Route 4, Plymouth, well known lifetime farmer of the Rutland communtiy, died Sunday
afternoon, MArch 15, at Parkview Hospital in Plymouth following a four month illness.
Born May 26, 1901 to William H. and Rena Hartman at Rutland, he was married at Plymouth to Ophra E Ringer,
who survices.
Also surviving with the wife are a daughter Mrs. Richard (Mary Ruth) Thompson Route 4, Plymouth; two sons
Darwin of Route 1 Plymouth and Leo at home; three grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Rena Hartman of Route 4
Plymouth; and three brothers Clarence, Route 4, Plymouth and Ruben and Robert both of Plymouth.
His father and a sister preceded him in death.
Services are being held today, MArch 18, at the Grossman funeral home at Agos with the Rev. W Ray Kuhn of
Plymouth, pastor of the Popular Grove Methodist Church officiating. Internment will be made in the New Oak
Hill Cemetery at Plymouth.
