Mrs. Orville Peckham, 81 years old, member of a pioneer Indianapolis
family and long a summer reisdent of Lake Maxinkuckee died last
Wednesday at her home in Indianapolis after an illness of several months.
Funeral services were held Friday. A son John J Peckham and two
grandchildren Lorenzo O Schmidt and Anne P. Schmidt survive. - citizen
and
Mrs. , 81 years old. a member of a pioneer Indianapolis

Last WIll and Testament of Anne Maria Peckham
I, Anna Maria Peckham, of Indianapolis, Indiana, being of sound and disposing mind
and memory, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament
hereby revoking all former wills by me at any thime made.
Item I I direct that all my just debts, together witht he expenses of the administration
of my estate, be paid by my executor, hereinafter named. I further direct that any estate
or inheritance taxes, Stae or Federal, assessed either against my estate or against any
persons taking under this will because of the devises and bequests here in contained, shall
be paid out of my general estate.
Item II I give and bequeath to my son, John J. Peckham, all of my personal chattels,
including my jewels, silveware and p alte, china, clothing, books, household goods and
effects, pictures, fistures and objects of art; and all such property shall be goven without
deduction on account thereof in the division of my estate provided for in this will. I
direct that after my death my said, John J. Peckham, shall at once take thereof, and that
neither he nor my executor shall be required to maake any inventory thereof.
Item III I give and bequeath to my grand-child Anne Peckham Schmidt, all of my stock is the
Propylaeum.
Item IV One hald of the rest and residue of my property and estate, real, presonal and
mixed, of whatsoever kind, and wheresoever situtated, and to which I may be legally or
equitably entitled, I give and devise and bequeath to my son, John J. Peckham, absolutely
and in fee simple, and the other one-half of said property and estate I give, divese and
bequeath to my two grandchildren, Lorenz Oscar Schmidt and Anne Peckham Schmidt, in equal
shares absolutely and in fee simple.
Item V I give to my so, JOhn J. Peckham, the right to occupy personnaly the south side of my
house at 1320 North New Jersey Street, Indiaapolis, Indiana, without payment of rent or
other payments except the payment of taxes upon sai property so occupied, until such time as
he shall vacate siad premises or express in writing his waiver of such right.
Item VI My executor, hereinafter named, shall have full power and authority to seel, lease
rent, mortgage, improve, assign, transfer and convery all or any part of my real estate,
without any petition to or order of court, advertisementm bond, appraisment or notice of any
knind, and to execute any and all deeds and other instruments of release, mortgage and
conveyance thereof, and to do all things incidental thereto, without the approval or any court.
Item VII I hereby constitiute and appoint Warrack Wallace, of Indianapolis, Indiana executor of
this my lasrt will and testament.

Mr. Peckham graduated in 1867 from Brown University, Providence, R. I.
Orville Peckham of Chicago now and for many years the attorney for the
Chicago First National Bank, corner of Mumoe and Dearborn streets and
the head of a well known legal firm of that city with Edward Eagle Brown
They resided in Geneva, IIIinois, a suburb of Chicago.

Orville Peckham, 81 years old, died at his home in Indianapolis. Mr.
Peckham was born in Rhode Island, being a member of one of the old
Rhode Island families. He graduated from Brown University in 1867
and practiced at Providence and then in Chicago in a partnership with
Judge E. 0. Brown of that city. He retired from active practice in 1912.
From 1875 to 1912 he was general counsel for the First National Bank of
Chicago and his general practice brought him into contact .with some of
the leading financiers of the country. His old law firm now one of the
leading law firms in Chicago. Mr. Peckham is survived by his widow and
two children.

Funeral services for Orville Peckham, 81, attorney, of 1320 N. New Jersey St.,
were set for 3 p.m. today, at the home, with the Rev. Frank S. C. Wicks, pastor
of All Souls Unitarian Church officiating.
Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery
Mr. Peckham was born in Newport, R. I. Oct. 30, 1845.
He attended Brown University, graduating in 2887. He formed a law partnership with
the late Jodge E. O. Brown at Providence. The firm moved to Chicago as Peckham &
Brown. Mr. Peckham continued in the firm until he retired in 1912 and came to
Indianapolis two years later. He was general counsel for the First National Bank of
Chicago from 1875 to 1912.
In 1876. Mr. Prckham married Miss Anne M. Jameson.
Surviving are Mrs. Peckham; a son, John J. Peckham, a Chicago attorney; a sister, Miss
Ella Peckham, Providence, R. I. and a nephew, George Peckham, a Chicago attorney.
Mr. Peckham was a membre of the Univeristy Club and Woodstock Country Club of Indianapolis.

The Cambridge City Tribune - June 3 1937 -- John Judah Peckham, former Chicago
lawyer, died in Indianapolis, where he had lived during the last ten years. He
was fifty-five years old.
Will of John Judah Peckham
I John J. Peckham, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do hereby publish
and declare this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking all wills and
codicils by me made at any time made.
Item I - I direct that any estate, inheritance or tansfer taxes, state and federal,
assessed either against my estate or against any persons taking under this will
because of the devises and bequests herein contained, shall be paid out of my general
estate.
Item II - I give, bequesth and devise to my nephew, Lorenz O. Schmidt, of Chicago,
Illinois, absolute and in fee simple, all of my real estate situated in Marshall county.
Indiana, and all of the household goods and tangible personal property which at the
time of my death are situarted upon and unsed in connection with said real estate.
Item III - I give and bequeath to my niecs, Anne Peckham, the sister of said Lornez O.
Schmidt, the sum of Four Thousand DOllars (%4,000.00).
Item IV - I recently resided in the home in Indianapolis of Mrs. George K. Schofield
and, though I have fully paid and satisfied all legal obligations of whih I am aware, I
wish to evidence my appreciation of the kindness with which I was treated by Ms. Schofield
and her f amily. I, therefore, give and bequeath to Margaret Anne Schollfield, the daughter
of Mrs. George K. Schofield, the sum of FIve Thousand DOllars ($5,000.00) and I direct that
said total sumb be paid to the said Margaret Ann Schofield at the sum of One Hundred Dollars
($100.00) per month for each of fifty months, the first monthly payment to be made as soon
after my death as is convenient in the course of the adinistration of my estate, and the
balance of said sum to be placed by my Executor in the hands of Lorenz O. Schmidt as trustee,
to be paid out to the said Margaret Schhofield at said monthly rate unil the fund is exhausted
If said Margaret Ann Schofield shall die prior to the exhaustion of said fund, the balance
remaining therein shall be paid over, in equally shares, to the said Lorenzo O. Schmidt and
the said Anne Peckham. J.J.P.
The bequest in this Item IV of my will is made, hoever, upon the express condition that the said
Mrs. George K. Schofield and the said Margaret Anne Schofield and the brother of the said Margaret
Ann Schofield deliever my executor their written releases, releasing my estate and its representatives
from any and all claims of every kind whatsoever, (except the claim of the said Margaret Ann
Schofield for the legacy bequested by this Item IV of my will), and no payment sallbe made to said
Margaret Ann Schofield until said releases had been so delivered.
Item V - All the rest and residue of my property and estate, real, personal and mixed of whatsoever
kind and wheresoever situated, I give, devise and bequeath, if equal shares, absolutely and in fee
simple to the said Lorenz O. Schmidt and the said Anne Peckham, being my nephew and niece, hereinabove
mentioned.
Item VI - My Executor shall have full power and authority to seel, lease, rent, mortgage, improve,
affign, thransfer and convey all or any part of my real estate, withou any petition to or order of
court, advertisement, bond, appraisment or nbotie of any kind, and to execute any and all deeds and
other instrument of release, mortagae and conveyance thereof, and to do all things incdental thereto,
without the approval of any court.
Item VII - I herby nominaye and appoint Lorenzo O. Schmidt, my nephew, as Executor of this will and,
if he does not qualify, or does not desire, to serve, I rquest that the person nominatedf by him serve
as such Executor.
