Calling will be one hour before services Saturday. Memorial contributions may

Perine who was found dead Thursday near a field at 125th Street and RIver
Road east of Carmel, died of a gunshot wound that apparently was
self-inflicted. His family reported him missing to police Tuseday night.
In his carerr, Perine headed large real estate developments across the country,
in the Bahamas and Hawaii. He was one of the first to develp time-sharing resorts
and pioneered construction of man-made lakes surrounded by homes.
He helped sponsor a 1960's African relief effort, WIngs Over Africa, that sent
physicians and medical supples to Kenya.
Perine built a string of big housing subdivisions and resorts in Indiana in about 1960,
he opened the P layboy CLub in Miami. It was the second in Hugh Hefner's then
growing empire.
In 1969, Perine announced his Envoy International Town Clubs idea. He envisioned
executive-oriented renduzvous center om 45 cities where business men would meet
entertain and seal deals in offices away from home.
Envoy clubs opened in Fan Francisco, Washington, CHicago and Pittsbugh and
evenually closed.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Perine's careet began in 1957, shortly
after a tour of duty with the Navy.
At age 25, and withhis first wife, Mary Ann Perine, he started building houses in
Indianapolis - 12 the first year, 110 the second, 450 the third and fourth.
In Indiana Perine Developement Corp., started Heather Hiss and Hilday North and
East subdivisions, as well as New Whiteland, Muncie and Kokomo.
Perine solld his delelopement buisness in 1961 to partner Donald L. Huber of
Dayont, Ohio and Began United States Land Inv. with Jack Keating, now of
Chicago.
United States Land created lakes for housing and recreation or built houses
and sports facilities around existing watwer. Prominent in those projects were
Lakes of the Four Season with morth than 2,500 lots near Gary, and Lake of
the Pines in the Sierra foothills east of Sacramento, Calif., Ocean Pines
development near Baltimore has 10,000 lots.
Also in the 1960's he was a consultant to Miami-based General Development Corp.,
which launched eight development communities in FLordia, including locations
at Port Charlotte, Fort St. Lucie and Port Malibar.
By 1966, he had finished several large developments in Cleveland and near Chicago
and was building others near Kansas City and San Fransico. He won so many
citations the National Home Builders called him the "Number One Winner of
BUilding awards"
He was envisioning supersized development of 10,000 lots around lakes with 30
miles of shoreline. He conceived that concept of a "floating city" that would be
composed of man-made peninsulas in the oceans off FLordia or California where
boat owners could dock. He asked "Why line in a trailer miles from the sea when
you can line on a houseboat.?"
With sales of #32 million in five years, United States Land was bought by the Boise
Cascade Corp. lumber company in 1867. Perine reportedly received at least $10 million
in Boise stock.
After two years of semiretirement, he ws back on the developement scene and in
national news magazine storioes with new projects around the country. At age
34 he was called a vertern of his industry.
In 1970 he was named to head the Indianapolis Sesquicentennial COmmission's
finance committe. He was a board member of the Indiana Pacers and served on a
stadium study task force of the Greater Indianapolis Progress committee.
