Gerald “Jerry” Arthur Cox Sr.  

CULVER — Gerald “Jerry” Arthur Cox Sr. of Culver, formerly from Tinley Park, Ill., passed away peacefully at 3:55 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2014 in the home he loved so much in the loving arms of his caring wife, Monica Cox.

Jerry wed his sweetheart Monica McCawley on Sept. 4, 1965.

His wake and a celebration of his life will be held in his home at 19716 S.R. 117, Culver. The visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern) on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 with a memorial celebration of life to follow at 5:30 p.m.

Jerry is survived by his wife, and six children, Monica V. Martz (John), Gerald A. Cox, Jr. (Susan), Connie M. Wilson (William), Michelle J. Smith (Joseph), Kimberly E. Burdick and David J. Cox along with 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Interment will be private.

Memorial donations can be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Jerry was born on June 29, 1942 to Violet K. Knopp and Robert K. Cox Sr.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert K. Cox Jr.

He provided for his wife and six kids working in the lithography trade. He was part of the printing process for such companies as Hallmark and the Chicago Bears.

Jerry started his own businesses which included Congress Press, C & C Litho, Lincoln Way Printing and lastly Meteor Color Graphics.

His printing legacy lives on with his eldest son, Jerry Jr.

Life wasn’t easy providing for six kids including a special needs child. With a deep conviction and a strong faith, he was great at overcoming obstacles and learning life lessons along the way.

There is an endless list of things that will be missed about Jerry; his infectious laugh, playful banter, his passion for God and his country and desire to help those down on their luck to find hope and restore their faith. He was like the seed that started a flourishing family tree. Through the years with loving care and attention his family tree has grown. The Cox family tree is strong and can withstand any storm that tries to topple it.
