Henderson, William G., 85, a long time resident of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, passed away September 25, 2004 after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Chicago and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut.

He attended Columbia University's School of Architecture but withdrew after four years to pursue his love of flying. This led him to a career as an airline pilot that spanned nearly 38 years. He started with Pennsylvania Central Airlines in 1941 and ended his career flying 747's for United Airlines.

Bill loved beautiful things, good food, cooking for crowds, dancing, warm weather, convertible cars, water views, raising orchids, and traveling the world.

His knowledge and passion for architecture enabled him to remodel every house he ever lived in. His homes were admired by many.

Bill loved life. He lived it to the fullest with humor, honor, and dignity, even while trapped in a failing body his last 2 1/2 years of life. He lived those years with incredible courage and optimism. Friends will remember his wonderful smile, his baby blue eyes and knowing that he was a true gentleman who treated everyone with kindness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his children, Zuma Mollison, Dorian Charlton, and Thomas Gibson Henderson; his step-daughters, Jennifer and Kate Lieber; his sister Lorraine McCandless; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and his little dog, Teddy.

Because of Bill's great love of water and boats, a private ceremony at sea will be held on November 6, 2004 where family and friends will scatter his ashes in the warm waters of Ft. Lauderdale and celebrate his life.
