Word has been recieved of the death of Col. Carl Steely on October 5, 2010.
A Marine Coprs veteran, Col. Steely served the Culver Academies in several capacities
between 1966 and 1999.
He was also associated with the
Culver Bed & Breakfast on Lake Shor drive during the mid-to-lake 1980s.
Steely began his career at Culver Academies as a Troop A counsler, served as commandant
three times, was a member of the developement Office, served as the academic dean, and
retired as an admissions counselot.
Col. Steely will be interred at Qua
ntico National Cemetery and a memorial service is planned
at Culver Memorial Chapel.
He is survived by a son, Chris (CMA class of '83), and daughters Catherine Rioux, Elizabeth, and
Victoria, all of whom attended Culver academies as well as his granddaughter, Meagan Rioux, is

Joan Hollowell McGregor Weds Carl Victor Steely
Mrs. Joan Hollowell McGregor and Carl Victor Steely were married Thursday, Nov. 3 in St.
Barnabas Episcopal church, DeLand, Fla. at 4:30 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Hollowell of Indianapolis and
1570 [1540] East Shore Dr. Culver
are the parents of the bride. The bridegrooms parents are Dr. And Mrs. Arthur D. Steely
of Bardstown, Ky.
The Rev. Walter B. Peterson officiated at the ceremony and only members of the family
attended.
The bride wore a powder blue sheath of French lace and ple de soie and carred a white
orchid.
The sister of the bride, Mrs. Donald S. Speer of Indianapolis was matron of honer. She
wore royal blue silk chiffon and carred a colonial nosegay.
Colonel Carl Ward, headmaster of Florida Military School in DeLand was best man.
Following a reception the couple left for a wedding trip to Nassau. They weill reside at
802 Eastover Circle, Deland, Fla. Mr. Steely is a instuctor at Flordia Military School in
Deland 9 nov 1960 Citizen

During the late 1980's into the 1990's he was a also professor at Ancilla Domni College
at Dondaldson, Indiana
Steely was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, where he served 3 years active duty.
He prepared for college at Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, Virginia. He received a
BA from Centre College in Kentucky where he majored in Chemistry. He was awarded a master's
degree from Stetson University in 1964; and in 1971, he graduated from Notre Dame University
with a master's degree in business administration.
At Florida Military School in DeLand, Florida, Steely served as Professor of Military Science
and Tactics, starting in 1960.
At Culver Military Academy, beginning in 1966, he served as counselor of Troop A, Commandant of
cadets, Academic Dean and assistant Director of Admissions. He spent more than 30 years CMA,
retiring in 1999.
Colonel Steely is survived by his wife of 18 years, a son, Christopher Cain Steely (CMA '83),
and daughters Catherine A. Steely Rioux (1979), Elizabeth, and Victoria Joan Steely (1977).
His granddaughter, Megan Rioux, is urrently attending CMA
