1956 - Dec 26 - The deal has been completed for the Methodist parsonage and the Mrs.
Lillie Buswell properties at Main and Washington Streets. Standard Oil of Indiana has
completed negotiaitions and will build an ultra-modern service station...Mrs Buswell
got...Attorney George Sands of South Bend represent her, and he did a good job
1957 - May 8 - Big House Being Moved To New Location
The large two story home of Mrs. Lillie Buswell is being moved from 209 N.
Main to a new location two blocks west of Main on West Washington St.
Walter Euler of LaPorte, moving contractor, estimates that the weight of the
house is about 70 tons and it measures 60 by 28 feet.
It is rumored that the Standard Oil co. (Indiana) will erect a modern service
station at this choice location in due course. -

1958 - September 17 – NEW SERVICE STATION BEING CONSTRUCTED ON MAIN STREET
The old Methodist parsonage at the northwest corner of Main and Washington Streets was
totally demolished last week to make room for a new Standard Oil Co. (Indiana) service
station.
It was one of the oldest houses in town over 80, according to Elza Hawkins.
Excavating was done by Don Stubbs
in just 21 days time.
It is rumored that Standard will spend between $35,000 and $40,000 on the station and
that the company is looking for a lessee with $5.000 to operate it.
Gordon Cultice's station across from the
bank after all of these years has switched from Standard products to Texaco. Cultice
has invested in a new $6,000 Texaco deliverv truck.

MEL'S STANDARD SERVICE AFFILIATES WITH CHICAGO MOTOR CLUB
Mel Shidler, the accommodating fellow who has operated the new Standard service
station at the corner of Main and Washington Streets since Jan. 1, is now the
service affiliate of the Chicago Motor Club for the Culver area, succeeding
Snyder Chevrolet Sales which is discontinuing business.
Shidler gives 24-hour service to Chicago Motor Club members. If there is no

Mel plans to move his family to Culver in late May after the close of the school
year.
1962,May-1963, May 29 - Denny's Standard Service - Denny Mishler
Dennis Mishler Purchases Local Standard Station
Dennis Mishler, of Leiters Ford, has purchased the Mel's Standard Service on
Main St. from the former owner, Melvin Shidler. The final arrangements were
made as of May 7. Shidler had operated the station for the past two years.
Mr. Mishler has leased the building and pump equipment from the Standard Oil
Company and purchased the stock which consisted of gas, lubricants, tools. etc.
The new management have open hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week.
Besides the gas and lubrication business, Mishler will also operate a car wash
stand, car tune-up service and brake service.
Mishler, a resident of Leiters Ford, has had wide experience in the service station
business. The last four years he has served as mechanic with the Chevrolet, Pontiac

Denny's Standard Service Station Changes Hands
Denny's Standard Service Station, North Main St., Culver, has been purchased by Melvin
Shidler, North Judson.
The sale was effective as of May 24. Dennis Mishler, Leiters Ford, purchased the station
a little over a year ago from Mr. Shidler. Mr. Shidler after leaving the service station
took up farming. He will move with his family to Culver sometime late this year.
The station will be known as Mel's Standard Service Station. Worlie Chaffing, North Judson,
will assist at the station. Openhours for the station will be 1 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days

Good Oil Company was founded by Don O. Good Sr. in 1941. Based out of Monterey,
Indiana, the company was involved mainly in the sale and delivery of petroleum
products to farm and home heat customers. Don became a Standard Oil/Amoco jobber
and continued to grow his business until retirement in 1978.
When Don, retired his two sons, Don and Dean, assumed operation of the company
and 1980 they relocated the business to it's current offices in Winamac.
Donald Good Obituary
July 30, 1918 - June 26, 2007
MONTEREY - Donald Owen Good, 88, died at 7:59 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, in Pulaski
Memorial Hospital, Winamac.
Survivors include his wife, Mary M.; daughters, Dixie Good of Rochester and Debbie
Machamer of Winamac; sons, Don Good and Dean Good, both of Monterey; 10
grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Onda Good of North Manchester and Pauline
Good of Monterey.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Monterey United Methodist Church, with calling
two hours before.
The Good Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
