CULVER - Sharon Lee Mahler, age 75, residing in Culver, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, with her daughters by her side.

Sharon was born on Oct. 13, 1942 to the late Charles and Marie Baker.

Though a childhood illness left her without the use of one arm, Sharon did not let that slow her from achieving her goals. She raised three children.

Sharon taught herself to drive at age 32 in order to start her first job at Millers Nursing Home. She continued as a health care worker for over 30 years in Indiana and Florida. Her compassion for the elderly was strong. She would purchase and wrap small gifts for each of her residents every Christmas. She became the family that many of them did not have.

Sharon was an avid reader of suspense novels. She kept in contact with friend and family thru Facebook which she taught herself to use.

During retirement she enjoyed travel with family. The mountains of Colorado were shared with her son on several trips. She enjoyed New Orleans Las Vegas and rode in a helicopter thru the Grand Canyon. Her travels took her as far as Hong Kong. Sharon never lost her curiosity and acceptance of new people, places and things. She was an example of what we should all aspire to be: caring, compassionate and accepting.

Sharon is survived by her son, Ed Mahler of Colorado; daughter, Susie Mahler of Culver; daughter, Lisa Mahler of Culver and two grandchildren, Gavin and Chloe. Her surviving sisters: Brenda Brandt Dietrich, Linda Ripperberger Delay, Barb Schemel and brother Mike Baker.

She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Larry Baker

A celebration of life will be planned for later this summer.
