He came to Culver at the age of sixteen in 1904 for employement.

He retired in 1953, as head waiter of the mess hall; yet working several years afterwards for academy functions.

Dickerson spent most of his working life in Culver as head waiter at the Culver Military Academy's mess hall. There is a bust of Charles on the wall of the mess hall, honoring his service and friendship to Culver leadership and patrons
