He taught school for many years in this county but for some years past had
followed the cocation of house painting.
He was a man of retiring dispopsition but with a genial smile and greeting
for all his acquaintances. Always gentlemanly in his demeanor he had the
respect and friendship of every body.
To his thre brothers and sister we extend the warm hand of sympathy.
A beautiful servie was held at the family residence at 10 p'clock yesterday,
conducted by a Christain Science reader from Plymouth.
The voal musi was furnished by a quartet composed of Miss WIseand, Mrs. Carl
Adams, Mrs. Marion JOnes and Mrs. Charles COooowen; and Miss Carrie Boss of
Plymouth who sang a solo.
The pall bearers wer Ed. Hwak, ALbert A. Keen, and Orr Byrd representing the

Mrs. John Wolfe is Murdered in Chicago
The Body is Borught her and FInds its resting Place In Oak HIll Cemetery
News of the murder of Mrs. John Wolfe, Of Chicago, nee Clara WIlson was telegraphed to her
relatives in this city last Saturday.
The remains arrived here SUnday evening and were taken to the old homestead where her friends
were permitted to review them. Monday rev. DeLong conducted the funeral after which the body
was taken to its last resting place in Oak Hill Cemetery
Mrs. Wolfe was born and raised in these parts and leaves a large circle of relatives and
acquaintances to mourn her sad death.
On Saturday the Chicago News published an account of her murder as follows:
Mrs. Clara ALice Wolfe, wife of John WOlfe, a bartender at 60 Thirty-first
street, was shot and killed at 1:30 o'clock this morning by William E. Cole
of 1351 Michigan Avenue
The shooting occured at Mr. WOlfe's house, 3120 Cottage Grove Avenue, in the
presence of her husband.
Cole fired a bullet through a door, which struck Mrs. Wolfe in the groin. She
died while being removed to Mercy Hospital.
Cole was arrested b Policeman John Madden, who heard the shot fired. He
surrendered only after a pursuit of several blocks and after two shots had
been fired at him by the officer.
Cole called at Wolf's house and aske to see Jessie Gordon, who lives with the
famil. Admission was denied him by Mrs. WOlfe, and a dispute followed, during
which Wolfe pushed COle out of the doorway and stepped after him into the hall.
Cole then, it is said, drew a revovler and fired a shot which went through the door.
There was a scream, and when Wolfe ran inside the roo, he found his wife dying
on the floor.
At the Stanton avenue police station Cole made severl contradictory statements to the
police regarding the affair. He first maintained that he did not fire the shot
which ended the woman's life.
He also denied he owned the revolver with which the dhooting was done, and attempted
to deny being at Wolfe's house when the crime occurred. He is said to have been
intoxicated.

Obituary.
Mrs. Margaret Burkett Wolf was bom in Perry county, Ohio, Oct. 5, 1827.
She was reared and educated in her father’s home until she was married
and became the head of her own household. Miss Burkett was united in the
holy bonds of matrimony Feb. 25, 1849 to Mr. Gideon Wolf.
They established their home at the first, in Sandusky, Ohio, in which were
born three of the children.
They removed to Rochester, Ind., from Sandusky in 1853. Here they resided
nearly two years. Subsequently they came to reside near Leiters Ford.
This was the old homestead and in which were born most of their children.
Mr. Gideon Wolf came to his mortal end on the 61st anniversary of his birth,
which occurred Feburary 11, 1885, and he was given sepulture in the beautiful
Odd Fellow’s cemetery in Rochester, where by the side of her husband were laid
the remains of the widow and mother, as once before in youth’s beauty and manhood
they were united each for theother in joint life but in the realm of mortality,
so again in the habilments of immortality they will be united in the life unending.
Mr. and Mrs. Wolf were the parents of nine children, all of whom are living and
seven of whom were present, joining in the solemn services.
The names of the children in the order of their births are as follows: Delilah Ellen
Phillips, Chicago, Ill.; Katherine Edwards, Daniel Wolf, Culver ; Susanna Hickman,
South Bend; Fernando Wolf, Salida, Colo.; John Wolf, Chicago; Samantha Brenner,
Plymouth; Laura E. Gerard, Gypsum, Colo,, and Timothy Wolf, Culver .
She was the grandmother of nineteen and the great-grandmother of three, making the
total number of descendants, thirty-one children.
Mrs. Wolf was a member of the Methodist church nearly all of her natural life. Her
religion was not of a demonstrative kind but was steady in its tenor and very
practical in the applied truths of Christianity and benevolent in character. Being
good was doing good. As in her life, so in the closing of her earthly career, her
faith was finally triumphant and her peace was like a river flowing strong and clear
out to the great ocean beyond. Peacef ully she sank to rest as the setting of the
sun behind the western hills.
Mrs. Wolf was for many years a member of the Daughters of Rebecca an order which she
very much loved and greatly enjoyed especially in the lodges of that order in Rochester
and Richland Center, Ind.
Margaret Burkett Wolf departed this life May 28, 1808, aged 75 years, 7 months and 23
days. She went to the “Mansions prepared” from the family home in Culver , on the shore
of Lake Maxinkuckee. Of all her residences none was more pleasant to her than this one
so near this body of water in which she took so much delight in various ways. To her
expectant soul sunrise gleams in the bosom of the lake and falling within her open
door were symbols of the shining way and the glory of the Jasper throne. June 4, 1903
