1915 - Mary Lyon Taylor (Mrs Edward Taylor) bought several VanShoiak lots; besides her own cottage of "Sunset Knoll" (See the 1922 plat map section below)

But you can't entirely understand the spell which real estate work throws over women until you have talked with Mrs. Edward Taylor.

A few years ago, Mra. Taylor was winning honors with her beautiful portrait studies of Indianapolis people.

Then she won a prize of $500 in a kodak picture contest and unconsciously began her career as realtor.

Perhaps, the love of the game was in her blood, for she isthe daughter of a well-known realtor of Minneapolis.

But Mrs. Taylor carried into her work, along with a love of speculation, real artistic Lability and imagination, and a great joy in happy home life.

She began with a small cottage at Lake Maxinkuckee, which she remodeled and beautified.

Then the lots near by began to look barron and lonely, so she hired carpenters again and built a second and then a third and a fourth cottage just to work out some of the artistio schemes which crowded her brain or which she saw in her neighbors' homes.

When they were finished she, filled the cottages with beautiful wicker furniture, Jenny Lind beds, softly colored rugs, etc., and they sold litcrally "at sight." House Dreams Come True

Today Mrs. Taylor is still trying to make house dreams come true at Orchard Hill, where Mr: and Mrs. Taylor and their sons, Edward and Heber, and their beautiful collie, "Jean." make their home.

It takes all five of them to show you where "Mother" has planned a winding drive through the adjoining thirty-five acres of rolling woodland covered with old beeches and maples and oaks, and to point out to you the beautiful sites for homes which she has chosen

As you walk along beside them, you, too, begin to see visions of comfortable homes, protected by forest monarcha and filled with happy people, and you reallze, with Mrs. Taylor that the selling of the right sort of homes is one form of service to the Community, a service whose importance can hardly be overestimated...
