1884 - , Jun 9, - The ReV. J. A. Rondthaler of Hagerstown, Maryland, for the second time occupied the pulpit at tne Tabenacle Presbyterian church yesterday, preaching in the morning on "Christian Individuality" and in the evening on "Positive Christianity." During his stay here he has impressed the congregauaii with his ability as a pulpit orator and his eminent fitness for a pastoral charge, and it is the purpoe of the Tabernacle people to meet tonight and extend a call to him. It to the understanding that Mr. Rondthaler. will condition his acceptance upon the build ing of a new church upon a new alto by the coEgTrgstlon.- The suggestion has been made that the church re-purchase its old lot on the corner ot Meridian and Second streets and build there. - Indianapolis News

1884 - Jun 17 - Tabernacle Chureli Affairs.

    There was a full attendance at the congregational meeting at the Tabernacle Church last evening.

    A call was unanimously extended to Rev. J. A. Rondthaler of Hagerstown, Md., to become the pastor of the church. The salary was fixed at $3,000 per year, payable monthly, and, in addition, the congregation voted his moving expenses from Maryland to this city.

    Mr. H. H. Fulton offered a resolution that a committee of seven gentlemen and five ladies be appointed to solicit subscriptions for the erection of a now building, and that the sum of $12,000 be immediately raised, which was carried and the moderator appointed the following committee: W. H. Hubbard, M. V. McGilliard, H. H. Fulton. V. Carter, J. A. Morrison, J. P. Wallick, J. W. Fletcher, and Mrs. Bowen, Mrs. Byram, Mrs. Landers, Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Wallick.

    The trustees were directed to purchase a lot on which to erect the building, either on North Illinois, Meridian or Pennsylvania street.

    A dispatch was sent Rev. Mr. Rondthaler notifying him of the action of the meeting.- Indianapolis Journal

    DR. J. A. RONDTHALER DIES IN BATAVIA, ILL.
      Dr. J. Albert Rondthaler, 84 years old, for many years pastor of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church and active in Indiana ministerial circles in the nineties, died Saturday evening at his home in Batavia, Ill., according to word received here yesterday.

      While Dr. Rondthaler was minister here the old Tabernacle Church at Eleventh and Meridian streets was built.

      He left Indianapolis in 1891 to accept a pastorate in Chicago. He had been in the ministry more than fifty years.

      At the time of his death he was connected with the Mooseheart school.

      The body will be brought here for burial tomorrow.

      Short services will be held in Crown Hill cemetery at 3 o'clock with the Rev. M. L. Haines, honorary pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

      The widow, two sons, Norman Rondthaler, who lives In the West, and Harold Rondthaler of La Porte, and two daughters, who live in New York, survive- The Indianapolis Star Oct 22, 1928

      Funeral services for Dr. J. Albert Rondthaler, 84 years old, pastor of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church 'many years, who died Saturday at his home in Batavia. Ill., will be held in Crown Hill cemetery at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

      The Rev. M. L. Haines, pastor emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

      Dr. Rondthaler left Indianapolis in 1894 to accept a pastorate in Chicago. He had been in the ministry more than fifty years.

      Passes Away Surrounded by Husband and, Her Children.

      The death of Mrs. J. A. Rondthaler, wife of Rev. J. A. Rondthaler, pastor of the Tabernacle Presbyterlan Church, occurred yesterday morning at Dr. Runnells's private hospital on North Illinois street.

      Her demise was not unexpected, as she had been gradually sinking for some time and all her friends had been apprised of her condition. The immediate cause of her death was tubercular peritonitis.

      Mrs. Rondthaler was formerly Miss Luckenbach and she was married to Dr. Rondthaler in 1869. living later in Hagerstown, Md., from which place they came to thls city about seven years ago.

      Mrs. Rondthaler was a woman of delicate physique, but had a great amount of endurance and courage. She was much loved by people in and out of her husband's church. She had infinite tact and was one to whom those in sorrow could go and find a willing, ready and sympathetic friend. With all her multiplicity of duties, being mother a wise woman

      In the administration of affairs. Mr. Rondthaler gives Just due to his wife for the never varying helpfulness which she gave him in his work.

      Her Judgment was unfailing and she was not only wife, but counselor and friend.

      There are eight children left, ranging in age from twenty-two to four. They are Ethel, Marlon. Alice. Anna, Robert. William, Norman and Harold. These, with their father and Mrs. Rondthaler's sister, Mrs. Crouse, of Pennsylvania, were with Mrs. Rondthaler when the end came.

      Arrangements for the funeral and the selection of pallbearers will be made today by the officers of the Tabernacle Church.

      The remains of Mrs. J. A. Rondthaler were buried yesterday afternoon from the family residence.

      The funeral was private, only the members of the family and the board of elders of the Tabernacle Church being present.

      The services were conducted by Dr. M. L. Haines, of the First Presbyterian Church.

      The pallbearers were M. V. McGillard, John Scott. Vinson. Carter and John Walllck, of the board of elders; W. C. Hall and Solon I Goode, of the board of deacons, and A. M. Ogle and Charles E. Dark, of the board of trustees of the Tabernacle Church. - Indianapolis Journal , Dec 25, 1894
