"Herbert Fisk Johnson Jr. (1899-1978) was only 28 years old when his father died in 1928 and he became president of Johnson Wax. He remained president until 1965. During his tenure he turned the company from a small Midwestern family-owned business into a major national manufacturer. He hired Frank Lloyd Wright in 1936 to design and build the Johnson Wax Administration Building in Racine, and later Wingspread and the Johnson Wax Research Tower. In 1936 he led an expedition 20,000 miles by air through South America to study the waxy substance that accumulates on the leaves of the carnuba palm. Carnuba wax became the basis for the johnson products of the 1930s and 1940s that made the company one of the "Fortune 500." Appropriately, the carnuba palm is carved on the exterior of the Johnson mausoleum.

Interred with Johnson is his third wife, Irene Purcell (1902 - 1972), who was a Hollywood actress in the 1930s."
