1899 - June 16 - CLOVERLEAF DAIRY - The undersigned having established a milk route around the lake, very kindly solicit your patronage. We deliver bottled milk right off the ice deliver bottled milk right off the ice every respect. W. H. Hand & Son Proprietors.

1922 - Clover Leaf Dairy sarted its existence approximately, by an article on October 15, 1930 thats mention below.

Said to have been started at 216 W. Jefferson by Henry Zechiel before moving over across the street to this address.

    - Certificate of Trade Mark To All Whom it May Concern:

    Be it known that I. Henry Zechiel, a resident of Culver, Marshall County, Ind the State of Indiana, and doing business in said town and vicinity,in compliance with the Acts of 1917, being Section 10440 A to 10452 inclusive, Burns Annotated Statutes 1921, have adopted for my use a trade mark for my milk bottles, of which the following is a full, clear and exact specification: My Trade mark consists of the words "H. Zechiel Dairy, Culver, Indiana".

    It is my desire to adopt the use of the above trade mark in connection with my mild, cream, butter, egg, and ice cream business in the County of Marshall, State of Indiana.

    I represent that no other person, persons, partnership or corporation have adopted any trade mark that could be confused with the one that I have adopted, and that the attached exhibit marked "Exhibit A" is a true and correct photographic facsimile of the trade mark that I have adopted for my own use.

    I represent further that I have caused a copy of this certificate to be filed with the Clerk of the Marshall Circuit Court of Marshall county Indiana and a copy to be filed with the Secretary of the State of Indiana, and I have caused a printed copy of this certificate with facsimile of my trade mark to be published for three consecutive weeks in the Culver Citizen, a newspaper printed in the town of Culver City, Marshall County, Indiana. - H. Zechiel.

    H. Zechiel, being duly sown upon his oath, deposes and says that the statements contained in the above declaration certificate are the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God - H. Zechiel.

Jesse Zechiel was to have owned 300 acres west of town the plat map shows this to be 287 as shown in 1922 plat map

Jesse's daughter Elizabeth Zechiel Davis stated in a recent interview with Jeff Kenney "The milk was the life's blood of the Clover Leaf Dairy...

Henry came out and picked up the milk every morning. He prepared it for bottles for the dairy. We got half the check."


1925 - Apr. 1 Owen Banks Purchases Henry Zechiel Dairy
    A deal was consumated last week whereby Owen Banks became the owner of the Henry Zechiel dairy and milk route.

    The formal transfer of the property took place Sunday March 29th. Mr. Banks is a well known man of this vicinity and it has been predicted that he will make a success in this business.

    Mr. Zechiel has decided to take a more active interest in his farm work in the future


1925 - Aug 12 - Zion... Owen Banks and family are moving into to Culver this week to be nearer their milk room and work. We regret their leaving our community.

1925 - Oct 7 - Hathaway and Kissinger Buy Banks Milk Station
    A deal whereby Hathaway and Kissinger became the owners of the Banks milk station was arranged last week

    The new owners have already taken psissession and are delivering mild and cream to their customers

    Hathaway has been employed by the city for the past several months. He drove the truck and acted as special police when needed.

    Before that time he was associated with J. G. Kissinger in the dray and transfer business

    Kissinger has been in the dray and transfer work in culver.

    Both men are well and favorably known and it is predicted that they will make a success of their business


1925 - Oct 28 , - Cloverleaf Dairy Co. - Kissinger and Hathaway Props.

1925 - Nov 4 - Notice - To the milk consuming public of Culver and lake, on account of high prices offered for milk and cream from outside firms, we are forced to raise the price on milk and cream. So govern yourself accordingly. On and after Nov. 9th, milk, 11 cents per qt.; pint, 6 cents; half pint cream, 15 cents, bulk milk in five gal. lots and over 32 cents per gal. Signed J. M. 1926 - Apr 21 - The milk house on West Jefferson was transferred from Hathaway and Kissinger to Lewis Overmyer of Burr Oak, Monday.
    1926 - Jan 9 - Henry Zechiel to Lewis Overmyer lot 22, Zechiel Addition, Culver, $2250.

    1926 - May 5 - Burr Oak Cheese Co. Is aold To Lewis Overmyer
      A business transcation was connsummated last Monday whereby Lewis Overmyer became the owner of the Burr Oak Cheese and Butter Company;s equipment located in Burr Oak. It is understood that Mr. Overmyer plans to operate a milk station in that place.


1927 - April 27, - Cloverleaf Dairy - Ford Overmyer, Prop.

1927 - Jul - -1928 - Sept - had no names attached to the ads other than "Clover Leaf"
    1928 - May 16 - Buildings Brightened.... The Clover Lear Dairy has changed apprearance of the building by two coats of white paint with a trimming of green.

    1928 - may 23 - New Milk Truck - The Clover Leaf Dairy has purchased a new Intenational truck with enclosed body for delivery use. This will give the dairy a faster and more sanitary service.

    1928 - May 30 - Have you Seen our New truck...
      The enclosed body is specially lined to keep out detructive heat in summer and freezing cold in winter. It also keeps out dirty germ carrying dust...

    1929 - Aug 14- Installs New Cooler - The Clover Leaf Dairy has finished the installation of a Frigidaire cooling system which keeps its milk at an extremely low temperature. This modern method is provinv a time-save as well as improving the quality of the milk and cream

    1929 - Aug 29 - Mik Cooled and Kept Cold Now by Frigidaire.
      Here is the announcement we have been telling you was coming.

      The Clover Leaf dair has installed a Frididaire system that coolsthe mild after Pasteurizing and keeps it cold until it goes on the truck for delivery.

      Now the milk is cooled to a temperature at 36 to 38 degrees and kept there. The means bacteria hasn't achance at your milk...


Clover Leaf Dairy ads - continue with no prop. or manger names on them up until Jul. 30 1930 - but news quips found gives name during early 1930 as:
    1930 - Jan 8 - Buys Farm Near Culver
      A 160 acre from on the Fulton-Marshall county line two and one-half miles south of Culver was purchased last week by Alfred T. Kingery of David B. Rans. Mr. Kingery, of the Cloverleaf Dairy expecrs to move on to the farm and operate a dairy farm.


    1930 - Jan 15 - Has Naarrow Escape
      One of the trucks of the Clover Leaf Dairy had a close call last Wednesday morning when it slipped on the icy road leading across the Pennsylvania railroad tracks at the outlet of Lake Maxinkuckee.

      The truck swung several different directions and finally ended up across the tracks near the bridge.

      Mr. Kingery realized it was train time and in his effort to hurry the truck off the track slipped into the ditch. But fortunately tha train had passed four minutes before the accident.


    1930 - March 19 - Ill Health Forces Kingery to Sell Interst in Dairy
      A breakdown in health from overwork has forced Alfred Kingery, associated with the Clover Leaf Dairy for several years, to sell his interest and take a rest.

      Emmit Cultice has taken over Mr. Kingery's share and since the 15th of the month has been in charge.

      Mr. Kingery will remain on his farm for several months until his health his recovered.


    ' 1930 - March 23 Alfred Kingery sold his interest in the coloverleaf Dairy to Emmett Cultice.

    ' 1930 - Jul 30 - Clover Leaf Dairy.... Prop. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zechiel; Harold Baker, Mgr.

    1930 - Oct 15 - Harold L Baker, manager of the Clover Leaf Dairy, of which Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zechiel are partners with him. The Clover Leaf Dairy is an extablished business. It was started eight years ago and proved an instant success with the Zechiel's policy of giving Culver clean pasteurized Milk, Cream and Butter, with real service
    .

    1932 - Februarry 24 - Clover Leaf Dairy
      The Clover Leaf Dairy is now equipped with a new truck with a body built to resist both frost and heat in harmony with the last state laws.

      Also a new pasteurizer had been added to their equipment which meets the requirment of the state law. Also a number of other very important improvements have been made

      We buy the very best milk on the market, regardless of price. Our milk at the present time tests 4 1/2 pre cent butter fat and better as your recieve it fromthe dairy.

      1941 - Aug 27 - The openeing of the Lake View Dairy on Mnday. Sept.1 has been announced by Harold Baker, who has been asociacated with the Colver Leaf Dairy for a number of years. Henry Hinkle has been named manager of the Clover Leaf Dairy.



    In the late 1940s Cloverleaf Dairy became a Borden's distributor.

    1944 - May 10 Leases Clover Leaf Dairy
      Ralph Condon has leased the Clover Leaf Dairy of WIllard Zechiel, effective May 1.

      Mr. Condon has been connected with the dairy for several years so is no stranger to the buisness.

      The dairy recently installed a new cooling system and is rendering improved service to its customers.

    1950 - Oct 4 - Fort Wayne Men Purchased Dairy
      Ralph Condon proprietor fo the Clover Leaf Dairy since 1942 has announced the sale of the local Dairy establishment to Don Grothous and DIn Liniger. The new owners took possession on October 1.

      Mr. and Mrs. Grothaus an Mr. and Mrs. Lininger recently moved to Culver from Fort Wayne.

      The dairy , formerly owned by the late Henry Zechiel was leased by Condon in 1942. In 1946 he purchased the busines. Mr. Condon has not announced his future plans as yet.


    1953 - Jul 15 - An add proclaimed the Bowman line ... incliuding the handy, nor-return Cartons...

    1953 - Aug. 12 - Cloverlead Dairy Is Purchased by Alex Kennedy
      Alex Kennedy of Blue Island, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, has purchased the Cloverleaf Dairy from Don Groathouse. Mr. Kennedy took over manafement of the firm on August 1.

      The Firm will reatain the name of Cloverleaf Dairy and will continue to handle Borden products.

      Mr. Kennedy has been on of the leading salesmen and buyers of Finchley's on Jackson Boulevard in Chicago. Finchley's is one of the finest men's clothing establishments in the country. For many yeats he has been known to the editor of the Citizen who takes gunuine pleasure in introoducing him most highly to the Culver community. He will be a real asset to our town and is realizing a longtime ambition to get away from the big city.

      The new owner of the Cloverleaf Dairy and Mrs. Kennedy hace two fine sons and a lovely daughte who have moved with them to Culver. They are presently occuping the small house on the Dillion farm at the junction of Roafs 10 and 17.

      Mr. Groathouse bought the Cloverleaf Dairy in October 1950, in partnership with Don Liniger who sold his interest a year ago. He has no immediate plans except to take a much needed vacation.


    By December 1958 ads were carring Pat Hallinan name,who built a home and dairy building on 402 West Cass St.
      Marjorie Kennedy daughter of Alexender Kennedy married 19 Feb 1955 in Blue Island, Illinois Patrick T Hallinan. The engagement was announced in the Jan. 19, 1955 Citizen.


    1955 - Aug. 10 - Foreman's Store Purchased By the Kennedys
      ...Mr. and Mrs. Foreman sold their weill known and long established ladies' and children's apparel and dry foods to Mr.and Mrs. Alex S. Kennedy.. The Kennedy's took immediate possession...

      Patrick Hallinan of Blue Island, Ill. who married the Kennedy daughter, Marjorie, earlier this year, has purchased the Cloverlead Dairy, formerly operated by the Kennedy's and will continure the distribution of Borden products in this area... the Citizen on behalf of the entire community... and the greated of success to the Kennedys and the Hallinans, in their respective new business projects.


    1961 - 14 - L. C. Snyder former owner and manager of Snyder Chevrolet Sales of Culver has purchased the property formerly known as the Cloverleaf Dairy at 215 West Jefferson St....

    1964 - Feb 5 - Cloverleaf Dairy Purchased By K. H. Miller, Jr.
      The Cloverleaf Dairy, of Culver, formerly owned by Partrick Hallinan, has been purchased by Kenneth H. Miller, Jr. The dairy was the wholesale distributor of Borden's Dairy Products, which Mr. Miller will continue.

      The official change over was eggectine Saturday, Feb. 1, Mr. and Mrs. Hallinan left last Friday for Arizona has similar employment with a dairy company. Mr. Miller also purchased the Hallinan home on West Cass Street.

      Mr. Miller has been employed by the K. H. Miller Dairy since returning to Culver from college in 1962.

      Prior to that time he worked part time. Mr. K. H. Miller, Sr. is the father of Mr. Miller.

      The two companies, are not cometitors due to the fact one deals in retail dairy products and the other items wholesale.


    1964 - Feb 12 - The attractive Hallinan house incleded in the Cloverleaf Dairy deal, has been transferred to Kenneth H. Miller, Jr., who will catch it there, furnishing a room at a time.

    His wholesale dairy business has no connection with his family's Dairy he emphasized..

    In 1975, Kenny bought Out his father and combined the routes, his father and sister-in-law, Chuckie Miller, working for him for a time. All of this meant volume was too large for the existing coolers, so Miller moved his operation to State Road 17, building a cement block building and walk-in cooler (the property has remained his home ever since

    Miller left the dairy business altogether in 1999
