Lemuel Crabb

Although most of his years have been spent in Culver , Lemuel A. Crabb must claim Kosciusko county as his birth place. When three months old his parent moved east of Kewanna, where he lived until he came to Culver 37 years ago.

For four summers he worked for William Kline and then after marriage Mr. Crabb returned to Kewanna for five years. But he co uldn't stay away from this community and he returned to follow the carpener trade. It is a source of pride with him that he helped build Culver , having erected six houses and remodeled a number of others.

It was 27 years ago last October that he opened a used furnitire shop where his present business is located. Fourteen years ago he added a line of new furniture and has been expanding ever since. In fact, he can recall at least 20 changes he has made to the building to modernize the structure and give his business more space.

For 16 years Mr. Crabb was engaged in carrying the mail from the post office to the depot.

For about 20 years he has been trustee at the Evangelical church. The biggest job in that capacity being to help plan and build the new church structure a few years ago. For 21 years he served as treasurer of the Evangelical Sunday School. He claims his chief hobby is playing with his grandchildren.

Prominent Citizen Taken By Death

Retired Furniture Merchant

Largely attended funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church for Lemuel A. Crabb, age 78, retired and highly respected Culver furniture merchant, who died In a South Bend hospital on Jan. 11 after a short illness. For 40 years prior to his retirement nine years ago he had owned and operated a furniture store here. He served for 30 years on the E.U.B. board of trustees and was its chairman at the time of his death.

His survivors include his wife. Lulu; two sons, Merl, owner of the Crabb Furniture Store here, and Ernest of Argos, also a furmiture merchant; five brothers, Arthur and AHvah, both of Kewanna, George of Winamac, Jesse of Butler, and Cleve of Culver ; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ernest L. CRABB, 62, Plymouth, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Parkview hospital at Plymouth. He had been ill two years.

Born June 25, 1910, at Culver , he was the son of Lemuel and L ulu LOUDEN CRABB. His marriage was June 25, 1933, at Bourbon to Hazel RENAS, who survives. Mr. Crabb was operator of the Crabb Furniture store in Argos for 25 years. He was a member of the Argos Congregational church and a former member of the Argos Lions club and the Argos Chamber of Commerce.

Also surviving are two sons, the Rev. Glen E. CRABB, Mishawaka, and Larry CRABB, Bloomington; six grandchildren; one brother, Merl CRABB, Culver . A brother preceded in death.

Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Argos Congregational Christian church. The Rev. Jacob WAECHTER will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakhill cemetery at Plymouth.

Friends may call at the Grossman funeral home in Argos until noon on Wednesday and at the church one hour prior to services.
