Fred ADAMS, 57, Culver, chairman of the board of the financially-troubled Culver-based State Exchange Finance Co., took his own life by a shotun blast Monday afternoon.

The body was found in a wooded area north of Indiana 10 and 117 in Marshall County on Culver Military Acodemy property known as the bird sanctuary.

A group of the Black Horse Troop Patrol of the Academy came upon the body and notified the Marshall County Police Department in Plymouth at 2:28 p.m.

Byers news release stated that Adams left the building housing the State Exchange Finance Co. and its affiliate, the Culver State Exchange Bank, in Culver about noon Monday for lunch and did not return.

The Finance Company filed for Chapter 11 reorganization (bankruptcy) in South Bend Disteict (federal) Court on Dec. 30.

The filing created fear among depositors of the Culver State Exchange Bank, which has branches in Plymouth and Argos, and of the Farmers State Bank, with a branch in Bremen. The latter is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Finance Company.

A court hearing on the Chapter 11 filing is to be conducted soon. --- Tuesday, January 11, 1983 Rochester Sentinel
