Mrs. Edna Christian Ex-Public Offical, Dieas
Mrs. Enda M. Christianm 86 years old, a prominent Indianapolis civic leader and public offical for many years died Sunday in a nursinghome at 2112 North Delaware Street where she had been confined for several years.
She was the widow of the Dr. Wilmer Christain. In 1921 the couple donated the land for Christain Park to the city of Indianapolis.
A native of Indianapolis, mrs. Christain was graduated from Shortridge High School and attended the Chicago Art Institute, Butler University, and University of Wisconsin.
She served as a member of the city plan commission and Board of Zoning Appeals fo 15 years, retiring in 1948. Other jobs held during her career in publice life included being a member of Hoover's Food Commission during WOrld War I and a member of the National Child Labor commission.
Mrs Christain was social director at Butler in 1931-92 and formerly was state chairman of Presbyterian ZFreedom Schools. She also formely was active in state an city Dmocratic organizations, the League of Women Voters, YWCA, Indiana Boys Town Association and First Presbyterian Church. SHe was a life long member of John Herron Art Institute.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kirby Mortuary with burial in Crown HIll cemetery.

| Christain park itself was donated to the City of Indianapolis by Dr. Wilmer F. Christian Jr. in 1921. The 40 acre gift was named in honor of his mother, Margaret Christian. The rest of their property was not platted until 1923. This subdivision, north of the park and south of the Pennsylvania Railroad, was called Christian Park Heights. An additional 24 acres was bought by the city for $12,000, these 62 acres make up Christian Park (4200 English Avenue). In the early 1930’s a recreation center was build. The Christian family donated the land with the stipulation that it would be used as a public park, playground. In the event that these terms are violated, property ownership shall revert to Wabash College. |  |

Services Monday afternoon at First Presbyterian Church
Funeral services for Dr. Wilmer F. Christain, 1626 North Delaware Street, who was fatally injured Thursday evening near New Castle, Ind. when his automobile was struck by a Pennsylvania train, will be held Monday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church. The servie will be in charge of the Rev. M. L. Hain_e, pastor of the church and Dr. George L. Mackinwhich of Wabash Colege. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery will be in the charge of Pentalpha Lodge; F and A. m. of which Dr. Christain was a member.
