John "Jack" Milton Milner

John M. Milner

In case you can't connect that name "John" with the above picture just remember that most people call him, "Jack" and then you'll know we have the right picture with this little personal sketch.

Jack was born in Darlington, Ind., and attended school in that towon as well as in Frankfort and Indianapolis, the latter city being where he received his high school education.

He insists he wasn't playing Santa Claus by moving to Culver on Christmas Eve, 1919, from which tim until 1926 he worked for Emil Siepman, in the sheet metal

Since 1926 he has been in business for himself, increasing, and enlarging the various lines handled to meet changing conditions in the sheet metall, heating, refrigeration, and plumbing business.

He is well known throughout the community as a skilled craftsman.

Jack's main hobby is river fishing, but during the winter he is usually founf watching basketball where there os a game being played here.

Jack Milner Dropped Dead Sunday While Fishing Through Ice.

John Milton Milner, age, 49, owner of the Culver Sheet Metal Works, died suddenly of a heart attack about 3:30 p.m., Sunday, while fishing through the ice on Lake Maxinkuckee

He was found soon afterwards by Norman Duddleson, who was skating nearby.

Dr. K. K. Kranning of Kewanna, who was fishing on the lake, was summoned, and first aid was administered but no sign of life was found.

Mr. Milner was taken to shore by Donald Mikeselland Ford Overmeyer.

Born in Darlington, Brown county, Indiana, he spent most of his childhod in Indianapolis, coming to Culver in 1919.

He entered business for himself in 1926.

He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the aviation corps. He was a member of the Culver Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are the wife, the former Iva Bowie of Know, whom ghe married last August; one daughter; Mrs. Charles Clifton, of Culver; one son, Donald, at home; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Milner, Harbor Springs, Mich.; and a half sister, Mrs. Sabina Malone, San Francisco, Calif., and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at the Zion Evangelical-Reformed church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. V. D. Weidler officiating.

Burial will be in the Zion cemetery were Masonic services will be given. - Jan 23, 1946
