[Peirce] C. Ward, 84, R.R. 3, prominent Richland township farmer and former Chicago business executive, died suddenly Thursday afternoon at his winter apartment home in Lighthouse Point, Fla. He had been in ill health for three years, but had remained active until the last two months.

Mr. and Mrs. Ward, who had a cottage at Lake Maxinkuckee, acquired four farms here and they moved to their home on Ind. 110 in 1936. He retired from Chicago business activities and devoted fulltime to managing the Indian Hill Farms.

He built up a large herd of blooded Angus cattle and held numerous stock sales at his farm that attracted buyers from many states. He exhibited his prize animals at the International and Indiana stock shows and won a number of high awards.

The Maxinkuckee cottage had been built by his grandfather and the Wards and children spent most of their summers there. He often mentioned that six generations of the family had lived in the cottage during vacation periods.

Mr. Ward was born in Lafayette, Nov. 3, 1885, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Peirce Ward He attended Purdue university and while a young man moved to Chicago. On Sept. 23, 1911, he was married to Edith Aishton, Winnetka, Ill., and they resided there until they came to Indian Hill.

Mr. Ward was a member of the Winnetka Congregational church and the Sigma Chi fraternity. He maintained much interest in Culver Military Academy all during his life.

He was chairman of the first board of trustees of Woodlawn hospital after it was acquired by F ulton county. He was a director of the Indiana Gas company, Indianapolis; Central Telephone company, Lincoln, Neb.; Lacrosse Telephone company, Lacrosse, Wis.; and the Southern Telephone company, Tallahassee, Fla. He recently retired from the board of Public Service Indiana.

In Chicago he became a broker and was associated with Golden Sacks company and later was a partner in Field, Ward & Glore, a leading stock and bond brokerage company. The senior member was Marshall Field III.

Surviving are his wife and three children, Mrs. Jean Ward Wollett, Culver ; Peirce Coltom Ward Jr., Riverside, Conn; and Miss Edith Aishton Ward, Laguna Beach, Cal.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Culver Military Academy Memorial chapel with the Academy chaplain, Jared F. Foster, officiating. Burial will be in Spring Vale cemetery, Lafayette. Friends may call at the Easterday-Bonine funeral home in Culver after 4 p.m. Sunday.

The family requests that memorials other than flowers be in the form of contributions to the coronary unit of Parkview hospital, Plymouth.Rochester Sentinel - 9 Jan. 1970

Mrs. Edith A. Ward, 86, R.R. 3, Rochester, died at 7:50 a.m. today in the Pilgrim Manor nursing home in Plymouth following an extended illness. Final arrangements are pending at the Bonine funeral home in Culver The Rochester Sentinel Wednesday, January 30, 1973

Private graveside services will be conducted at Spring Vale cemetery in Lafayette at a later date for Mrs. Edith A. Ward, 86, R.R. 3, Rochester, who died Tuesday at 7:50 a.m. in the Plymouth Manor nursing home at Plymouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkview hospital in Plymouth.

The Bonine funeral home in Culver is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ward was born February 18, 1886, at Boone, IA., to Richard and Rose Whitbeck Aishton. Her marriage was Sept. 23, 1911 at Evanston, IL to Peirce C. Ward. He died in 1970. She had resided in Richland Township since 1936, moving from Winetka, IL. She was a graduate of Kemper Hall and Vassar College.

Survivors are one son, Peirce C. Ward, Jr., Riverside, CO; two daughters, Miss Edith A. Ward, South Laguna, CA.; Mrs. Jean W. Woollett, Culver ; one brother Richard A. Aishton, Winetka; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The Rochester Sentinel Wednesday, January 31, 1973

Peirce Colton Ward Jr. '41 - PEIRCE WARD died Oct. 29,1991, at the Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, N.Y., after a long illness. He had lived in Greenwich for most of his life and is survived by a daughter Leslie Ward Lowe; two sons, Peirce Colton III and Neil Aishton; two sisters, jean W. Woollett and Edith A. Ward; and six grandchildren.

Peirce was born in Chicago. He came to Princeton from the Ashville School for boys in North Carolina. He has worked for General Foods and Corn Products before becoming a director of marketing and sales with the Squibb Beechnut Corporation. He retired in 1975.

A sailor, Peirce had been a member of the New York and the Riverside (Conn.) Yacht Clubs.

Class of 1941 archives hold but scant information about him, and there is no reference at all in our 50th yearbook. Peirce Ward was not long with us beneath the elms. We extend sincere sympathy to his survivors. - The Class of 1941 Princeton Alumni Weekly - March 4th, 1992
