Mrs. Blacklidge Dies

STAR STATE REPORT Kokomo, Ind.-Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Kautz Blacklidge, 79 years old, co-owner of the Kokomo Tribune, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the First Congregational Christian Church here.

Burial will be in Crown Point Cemein Kokomo.

Mrs. Blacklidge died Sunday in her home here.

A native of Wabash, she moved here when her father, the late John She Kautz, was a bought the Tribune.

Kokomo Resident, Related Here, Meets Death in Auto Wreck in Georgia

Word has been received here of the death of Kent Balcklidge of Kokomo, which occurred Tuesday afternoon at Valdosa; Georgia, while enroute to Florida. His car which he was driving hit the abutment of a bridge causing the car to overturn, killing him instantly.

He was forty-six years.old at the time of his death.

He was well known in this county, and is a nephew of C. M. Hackleman of Knightstown, also. a cousin of Mrs. J. F. Bowen of Occident.

He is survived by his widow and two : children and his. parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Blacklidge of Kokomo.

Bennett Bobbitt Suffers Broken Arm and Other Lesser Injuries - - Families of Both Men in Kokomo- -Two Men Had Left Kokomo Sunday Morning for Florida TripOther Members of Party Enroute by Rail and in Other Machine.

(Special to The Tribunc-By Associated Press. Valdosta, Ga., Feb. 18.- Kent H. Blacklidge, age 46. prominent manufacturer and banker of Kokomo, Ind. was instantly killed, and his companion, Bennett P. Bohbitt, age 43, also of Kokomo, and engaged in banking there, received a broken arm and other hurts. in an automobile accident near here today.

The two men 1vere enroute from Kokomo to Miami, Fla., having left their home city Sunday morning. Shortly after noon today they were nearing double bridges over the Withlacoochee river, five miles north of Valdosta. After rounding a sharp curve, their car got out of control. leaving the roadway, plunging down an embankment and overturning.

Blacklidge was killed outright, not moving after the crash. Bobbitt received contusions in addition to a broken arm, but is not thought to be dangerously hurt. He was brought to Valdosta, where he is receiving medical attention. Blacklidge's body was also brought here to be prepared for burial for burial.

They were expecting to spend Sunday night a Nashville. Tenn., and Monday night either at Atlanla, or Macon, Ga. This schedule wouid have thrown them at Valdosta, which is in Goorgia, about ten miles north of the Fiorida line some around noon Tuesday Valdosta isa city of about 11,000 inhabitants.

Mr. Blacklidge and Mr. Eobbitt were expecting to be joined in Miami by Mark A. Brown of Chicago: and Earl B. Barnes of Indianapolis, both former Kckomo men and particular friends of the two motorists, who, with their wives, left for Florida Sunday, by train.

In the same locality with Blacklidge and Bobbill were Albert V. Conradt, 516 West Sycamore street. and his son, Louis Conradt, and the latter's wife. Mrs. Louise Conradt. of the Windscr Court apartmenis. The Conradt party left Kokomo Sunday morning at the same time as Blacklidge and Bobbitt, traveling in Louis Conradt's Lincoin sedan. The two parties were expecting to keep in touch with each other until they reached Florida. Whether not the Conraits were near when the accident to Blacklidge's car occurred, has not yet been been learned

Blacklidge Career

Kent H. Blacklidge, only sor of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Blacklidge. 417 West Walnut street, was born and rcared in Kokomo. He took his schooling in the Kokomn public schools, Culver Military Academy, Oberlin College and Purdue University. He WAS gradunted from the last named inititution about twenty-five years ago.

In 1908 he was united in nge with Miss Bernice Kautz, daughter of j. A. Kautz. They have two children, Richard, who is ir the Kokomo High school, and Elizabeth Ann. the grade schools.

Mrs. Blacklinge and the children are at the home in West Sycamore street. The parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Blackliidge are at St. Petersburg, Fla., and their son was expecting to visit them on his way to Miami.

For the last several years Kent H. Blacklidge bad been particular prominent in local manufacturing and Financial circles. He was secretary and general manager of the Kokomo Opalescent Glass company, a director the Citizens National Bank, and a stockholder and director in numerous olher local enterprises.

He was an enthuslastic motorist and had driven from cars his boyhood. He was known as an especially carefui man at the steering wheel. Few individuals in Kokomo have driven as many Thousand miles as had he, and he was never before involved in an accident of the least. scriousness. He was of sunny disposition, had marked business ability was sociable and kindly and was popular in all circles which he was known.

Surviving Mr. Blacklidge, besides his widwoo, children and parents is one sister Mrs . Earl Chappelo of Kirkwood, a suburb of St Louis. The sister like her brother, was born in Kokomo, and is remembered by many acquaintances here as Alpha Blacklidge...

First news of the automobile accident was received by the Tribune about 2:45 o'clock. The Associated Press Telegraph wire had closed at 2:30 o'clock. The Indianapolis office of the Assoicated Press _a_er The Tribune by tepelphone amd gave the by telephone amd gave the report from Valdosta. The news was carried to the Blacklidge home by J. A.
