    Burning Tires Cause Much Excitement

The Culver Fire Department was called to the Bess and Mabel Pura property Tuesday, July 21, at 11:40 a.m. to extinguish a fire which had spread to a pile of old tires.

Herb Garn had been burning trash on another property which spread to the tires before he could control it. The fire made a cloud of black smoke that could be seen for miles. The firemen did save the old shed on the back of the property. Otherwise there was no damage done. This same area has been ordered cleaned up by the town board and the state fire marshal. It won't take so much cleaning now to get the area in shape. The area was formerly a junk yard.

NOTE: the "Junk Yard" was across the alley behind t he house and other buildings on Main St. between Madison and Marmont Streets. (the area in blue as appears today (2026)
