1960 - Jun 15 - DEATH AT 87 LAST MONTH of Julius Pura removed from our midst a friendly and colorful figure a Latvian immigrant who provided a typical American success story during his 53 years as a Culver resident. Upon his arrival here in 1907 he sold bananas to Culver Military Academy cadets at the main gate at 30 cents a dozen or 2 for 5 cents. From that small beginning he expanded into the junk and scrap metal business and through frugality and industry amassed a small forture. Best remembered Purism: "I can't give you anything for it but I will be glad to haul it away." Mourning the loss of this good citizen are his daughters, the Misses Mabel and Bess Pura, shown above with their devoted father.
