Leonard A. Reuter



Dr. Leonard H. Reuter, 71, of 71 E. Third St., Peru, died Saturday morning at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.

Born May 21, 1906, in Peru, he was the son of Arthur and Lina Door Reuter. He was married in 1933 to Amelia Vahle, who survives.

A lifetime resident of Peru, he was a retired 40 year optometrist. A 1931 graduate of the Northern Illinois College f Optometry, he was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He had been the past president of the Peru Lion's Club andpast president of the Miami County Historical Society.

Surviving with the wife are one son, John, Kokomo; one daughter, Jean Holler, Silver Springs, Md.; one brother Elbert, Rochester; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephen Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.

Amelia H. Reuter, 94, formerly of Peru, passed away at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Palm Garden Nursing Home, Vero Beach, Florida.

She was born on August 28, 1911 in Peru to Herman and Phillipina (Schafer) Vahle, and married Dr. Leonard A. Reuter on September 20, 1933. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1978.

Reuter was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru, and the Trinity Lutheran Church, Sebastian, Florida.

She served as a past president of the Miller's Merry Manor Auxiliary and was a 60-year member of the Miami County Historical Society. Reuter also was a charter member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Ever-Ready HomeEc Club.

She is survived by son, John Reuter and wife Debbie, Peru; and daughter, Jean Joy, Sebastian; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Aside from her husband, Reuter was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with Pastor Kenneth Greenwald officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
