Shaver, William Conkey 85, of Sarasota, FL went home to be with his Lord on January 13, 2012. "Bill" was born on June 9, 1926, in Gary, Indiana and is a veteran of the US AirForce.

He attended Indiana University and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. As an automobile dealer, he owned and operated a Chevrolet dealership in Gary, Indiana for 50 years and a Chevrolet-Mitsubishi dealership in Homewood, Illinois for over 40 years.

Bill was also active in the commercial real estate market where he helped develop large commercial sites in both Gary and Merrillville, IN.

He served on many community and civic boards in both Gary, IN and Homewood, IL. He was also Director of the Heritage Glenwood Bank in Glenwood, IL.

In addition to automotive dealerships, Bill also was both an owner/operator and distributor for both Mobil and Texaco Oil companies.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane (McKown) Shaver (formerly of Warsaw, IN) and four children: John B Shaver of Fort Wayne, IN, Connie Shaver of Sarasota, FL, Cindy (Shaver) Tilley of St Petersburg, FL, and William M Shaver of Marco Island, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a brother, Richard Shaver of Tucson, AZ.

Bill was an honest and successful businessman, a devoted husband, and a loving a dedicated father. He will be greatly missed! - Southtown Star on January 17, 2012

FORT WAYNE – Mary Jane McKown Shaver, 96, of Sarasota, Fla., went to be with her Lord on March 23, 2019.

Mary Jane “Rusty” was born on April 7, 1922, in Silver Lake, and spent her childhood and adolescence in Warsaw.


She attended Stephens College and Indiana University.

Rusty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life was well-lived and those that knew her appreciated her candor and honesty. Not one to hold back, she expressed her opinion without prejudice, especially with her children, yet was benevolently generous to any of them that needed help. By all that knew her, she will be missed.

She is survived by four children: John B. Shaver (Terri) of Fort Wayne; Connie Shaver of Sarasota, Fla.; Cindy Tilley (Marcus) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and William “Cub” Shaver (Maureen) of Marco Island, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sonya Engle (Don) of Greeley, Colo., and Jeannine (Windy) Cavell of Warsaw.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lucy McKown Sr.; husband of 60 years, William C. Shaver; and one brother, Fred McKown Jr.

Private services are being arranged by Greenlawn Funeral Home in Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

      Mr and Mrs William C. Shaver of Flossmor, Ill. announce the engagement of their daughter Cynthis Jane, to Warren K. Reiss of Cinncinnati, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carrol R. Reiss of Los Angles, Calif. formerly of Cincinnati.

      Miss Shaver, a graduate of Sullins College in Bristol, Va. is a student at the College of Mount St. Joseph. Reiss, a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Blatimore, Md., is attending the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

      A July 6, wedding is planned at the Culver Military Academy Chapel in Culver, Ind. where both taught in the summer schools. - Cincinnati Post Cincinnati, (Ohio) March 22, 1974
