    Betty Jane Stewart Hilton, 84, of Hendersonville, died peacefully Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the Elizabeth House.

    She was born November 24, 1923, in Chicago, IL and was the only child of the late Hugo E. Sansone and Marion Barry Taylor.

    She moved to Miami Beach, FL in 1924 where her love for the beach, the ocean, and boating began.

    She made her professional debut at the age of four performing with Roy D. Smith's Royal Scotch Highlander's Band. She studied voice, dance, and music and continued to entertain as a pair's figure skater. She toured with The Ice Capades and performed at Rockefeller Center's Ice Rink while living in New York City. She was an accomplished musician on the organ and taught piano for a time.

    She co-owned and operated Stewarts for Steak, a popular steakhouse in South Miami. She later owned and operated The Satin Doll, a children's dress shop. She began her real estate career in the mid-seventies which she continued to be active in for many years.

    She fell in love with the mountains of Western NC and began summering in Hendersonville in the fifties. She moved to the area full time in 1979. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.

    She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Joanie.

    She is survived by her loving husband of fifteen years, Alfred Hilton; children, Jack Gregory of Raleigh, NC, Susan Rutter and husband Richard of Hendersonville, and Anna Conner and husband Jerry of Fletcher; her nine grandchildren, Matthew Gregory, now serving with the US Marines in Iraq, Megan Gregory of Garner, NC, Michelle Gregory of Garner, NC, Peter Peretta and wife Dina of Coral Springs, FL, Mike Peretta of Brandon, FL, Erin Tsakalis and husband Ian of E.Sussex, England, Erika Kuh and husband Tony, both serving with the US Army in Seoul, South Korea, Maggie Conner of Fletcher and Abby Conner of Fletcher; and her six
    great-grandchildren and one more on the way.

    She is also survived by her dedicated, loving home caregiver, Linda Cramer of Hendersonville.

    A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Thos. Shepherd & Son Church St. Chapel with The Rev. H. Alexander Viola officiating.

      Ocala - James G. Stewart, 83, a retired National Football League recruiter and former owner of Stewart Steaks Restaurant in Miami, died Friday, Jan 16, 2004 at Oakhusrt Nursing Center.

      A Native of Harland County, Ky., he came here from Miami in 1980.

      He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Ocala, Kiwanis Club and Elks Lodge and worked for the Salvation Armin in Ocala.

      He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

      Survivors include his wife, June M. Stewart, Ocala; daughters: Dawn Morre and Karen Ehmann both of Ocala; Kim Ledbetter, Birmingham, Ala; son Bob Ehmann Ocala; 10 grandchildren and four great=grandchildren.
