Methodist Leader Dies

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 25. -(AP) - The Rev. Walter Lee Ewing, 69 years old, superintendent of the Allegheny District's Pittsburgh Conference of the Methodist Church, died today after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.

Before assuming the superintendency, Dr. Ewing had been pastor of the Calvary Methodist Church in Pittsburgh for 10 years.

A native of Hayesville, Ohio, Dr. Ewing had served parishes in Ohio, Massachusetts and Illinois early career.

Later he held pastorates at Terre Haute, Ind.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Des Moines, Iowa, Terre Haute Star Terre Haute, Indiana · Tuesday, December 26, 1950

Methodist Aide's Funeral Tomorrow

ASHLAND, O., Dec. 26-Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday in near-by Hayesville Methodist Church for Rev. Walter Lee Ewing, 69, superintendent of the Allegheny District Pittsburgh Conference of the Methodist Church, who died Monday in Pittsburgh.

After his graduation from Baldwin-Wallace College, he entered the ministry at the First Methodist Church here.

He was ordained in 1908 and became a member of the Illinois Conference in 1910.

Before assuming the superintendency of the Allegheny Conference, he had been pastor of the Calvary Methodist Church in Pittsburgh 10 years.

A native of Hayesville, he had served seven parishes in Ohio early in his career.

He was granted an honorary doctor of divinity degree by Baldwin-Wallace College in 1926.

He was a 32d degree Mason, a member of the Kiwanis Club and the author of a book, "A History of the Methodist Church."

Mrs. Ethel Ewing Services Held At Hayesville, Ohio

Rites for Mrs. Ethel M. Ewing, 87, former Indianapolis resident, were yesterday in United Methodist Church at Hayesville, Ohio.

Mrs. Ewing died Sunday in the Methodist Home at Elyria, Ohio.

She was the widow of Dr. Walter L. Ewing, former district superintendent of the Allegheny District of the Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. He pastor of the Irvington Methodist Church from 1917 to 1926.

Mrs. Ewing was active in the International Council of Religious Education and in leadership schoois at Lake Geneva, Wis.
