A deal that has been "hanging fire" since last May was finally completed last week when
H. G. Shafer purchased the store building and two lots known as the
J. Saine & Son
property on the corner of Main and
Jefferson streets. Mr. Shafer has not announced plans at present regarding the
propery
Dies In Flordia
Harvey Gillette Shafer, 60 years old, former vice president of the Marmon Motor
Company, died Monday night in Miami, Fla., after an illness of three weeks.
Since his retirement from business seven years ago, he had lived at Lake Maxinkuckee.
Survivors are the widow; a son, Maurice S. Shafer of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie
Maloy and Miss Ada Shafer, and his mother, Mrs. Lucretia Stephens of Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon in the Philbrick Presbyterian
Church in Miami.
The body will be placed in a vault at Miami to await return to Culver later for burial. --

Following an illness of three weeks Harvey Gillete Shafer, 65, Culver, Ind., former vice-president
of the Marmon Motor Car Company, died in Miami, Fla., last night, according to word received here.
Mr. Shafer, who retired in 1924 after thirty years association with the Marmon interests, went to
Miami a month and a half ago for the winter season.
He was a member of Oriental Masonic lodge, the Shrine and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis.

of the erection of flour mills.
Later he became factory manager. He went to Florida about six weeks ago to spend the winter.

Harvey Shafer Suffers Stroke of Paralysis
Harvey Haffer, well known lake cottager on East Side Lane, suffered a stroke of
paralysis in his left side on December 6, at Miami, FLorida, where he is now in the
hospital.
On the same day Morris Shafer underwent an operation for appeddicitis at Atlanta,

Made Home Here After Retiring From Business
Harvey G. Shaffer, age 65, years passed away Christmas night at a Miami, Florida,
where he has been since December 6, from a stroke of paralysis.
The remains will be kept at Miami until warm weather when burial will be in the Crown
Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
Mr. Shafer was a former vice-president of the Marmon Motor Company, Indianapolis,
having retired in 1924. Since that time he had made Culver his home, where he had
been a summer resident on East Shore Lane for a number of years.
Active as a Citizen.
A man of unusual energy, he had identified himself here with many community activities,
the present modern and complete fire truck being his outstanding project. He spent
many months aiding the fire company secure private subscriptions that made the
purchase of the equipment possible, donating a generous portion himself, and then
dealt with the manufacturers so that a low price was quoted in the deal.
Mr. Shafer took a great pride in improving East Shore Lane and his own lake property,
a few years ago he bought the lot formerly owned by J. Saine & Son at the corner of
Main and Jefferson streets, tearing out the old building, and a modern service station
was erected on the site.
He is survives by the widow Mrs. Nettie M. Shafer, a son, Maurice S., his mother and
two sisters, all of Indianapolis - Dec. 27 1933 - Culver Citizen
Last Rites Saturday For Harvey G. Shafer
Funeral services for Harvey G. Shafer, age sixtey four, who died in Miami, Fla. Decemeber
25, 1933, were whled Saturday afternoon at the Flanner & Buchanan mortuary, Indianapolis.
The Rev. Jean S. Milner, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church, officiated and burial was
in Crown Hill cemetery.
Mr. Shafer, a life long resident of Indianapolis, formerly was the vice-president of the Marmon
Motor Car Company. He was associated with that company and its predecessor, the Nordyke &
Marmon Compnay for thirty years. He was also superintendent of transportation for the
Indiana state highway commission about nine years ago.
He retired from active business several years ago and has spent his summers at Lake Maxinkuckee
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Osborn attended the funeral and services Saturday and remained in
Indianapolis until Monday evening to confer on business affairs of the Shafer estate. -

Funeral services for Harvey G. Shafer, 64 years old, lifelong resident of
Indianapolis, who died in Miami, Fla. Dec. 25 will be held at 2 o'clock
tommorrow afternoon in the Flanner & Buchanan mortuary.
