Carmel - Fred Carl Wurster, 85, of Carmel, Indiana passed away peacefully surround by his loving family, August 10, 2018 at Wellbrooke of Westfield with Transitions Hospice in attendance.

Fred was born in Indianapolis February 1, 1933 to Albert H. and Elsa (Gunser) Wurster. He attended Broad Ripple High School and Purdue University where he earned his BS in Ag Econ in 1955. He continued his loyalty as a life member in the Purdue Alumni Association and President's Council. He was a member and president of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. In high school and college he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Fred started his career at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and then for Shumaker Bros. In 1962 he joined the family business, Wurster Construction Co., founded in 1938, succeeding his brother, Russell, as president from 1990 to 1998.

Fred served as vice president of the Indianapolis Jaycees and helped develop operation "Pigeon Rid" in downtown area. He was a member of the Contemporary Club.

A love of sailing led the way to becoming a Commodore of the Maxinkuckee Yacht Club, Culver, Indiana where he was instrumental in forming the Hobie Cat and MC Scow fleets. He also served on the board for the Lake Preservation & Wetland Development.

Wintering in Florida, he attended the First Baptist Church of Venice, participated in a large Bible study, and was active with Habitat for Humanity. Rounding out his other interests were fishing, hunting, iceboating, piloting small planes and snowmobiling for a week at the beginning of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska.

Fred was a member of College Park Church and attended Bible Study Fellowship.

He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Susan, daughters, Linda Wurster and Jane Bruce, son, Albert, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, brothers, Russell (Peggy) Wurster and James (Sarajane) Wurster. His mother, father and brother, Donald, preceded him in death.

Calling will be on Friday, August 17th at Leppert Mortuary, Nora, from 5 - 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am at College Park Church on Saturday, August 18th.

Memorial contributions may be made in Fred's memory to the Alzheimer's Association's Greater Indiana Chapter or College Park Church.
