ATTICA — Dr. Lee J. Maris, 58, died unexpectedly Sunday night in Community
Hospital at Williamsport. He was a prominent physician in the area, on the
staff of Community Hospital and was Health Officer of Fountain-Warren
Bi-county Board of Health.
Dr. Maris was born June 14, 1911, in Tangier to Frank and Ethelyn Moffett Maris.
He married Gladys Anthony on March 6, 1938.
He was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church, Phi Delta Fraternity, Phi
Chi medical fraternity and the Fountain-Warren, Indiana State and American Medical
associations. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his widow; one son, Tony, at home; and two daughters, Mrs. Glenda Bates
of Indianapolis and Mrs. Marsha Lin Bilsland of Lathrup Village, Mich.
Rev. Harold Bachert of the Attica United Methodist Church will conduct the service in
the Roemer Funeral Chapel here at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery at Attica.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The family said those desiring may contribute to the building fund of Community Hospital.

ATTICA - The Bi-County community was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of prominent
Attica physician Dr. Lee J. Maris, who died 8 p.m. Sunday at Community Hospital in
Williamsport.
At the time of his death he was Health Officer of the Fountain-Warren Bi-County Board of Health
and a member of the staff of Community Hospital at Williamsport.
Dr. Maris was born June 14, 1911, at Tangier, the son of Frank and Ethelyn Moffett Maris.
His marriage on March 6, 1938, was to Gladys Anthony, who survives.
He was a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1936 and began his practice here
that year.
He practiced medicine continuously here except for a period of time when he served in the Army in
World War II. He was a member of Phi Delta fraternity, Phi Chi, medical fraternity, and was a member
of the Fountain-Warren, Indiana State, and American Medical Associations.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Attica.
Surviving with the widow are a son Tony, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Glenda Lee Bates, Indianapolis,
and Mrs. Marsha Lin Bilsland, Lathrup Village, Mich.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Roemer Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Chapel with Rev. Harold Bachert of the Attica
United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
Those desiring may contribute to the Community Hospital Building Fund, Williamsport, in his memory.

J. Anthony "Tony" Maris, 47, 606 S. Brady St., Attica, died at 10:39 a.m. Thursday; Jan. 29, 1998
in the emergency room of St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital.
He was born Nov. 9, 1950 in Lafayette, the son of Dr. Lee J. and Gladys Anthony Maris
.
He was a lifetime resident of Attica.
Surviving, are: two sisters, Marsha (Henry) Bilsland, Covington; Glenda (David) Bates, Zionsville;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private graveside services were held in Riverside Cemetery, Attica, with the Rev. Jeff Newton officiating.
Maus Funeral Home, Attica, was in charge of arrangements.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. - Fountain
