Services for Richard "Dick" Burk, 85, Columbus, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 11:30
a.m. Wednesday in Kroeger Funeral Home.
He died at 11:38 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Four Seasons Retirement Center, Columbus.
Born Oct. 17, 1917, in Cass County, he was the son of Adam and Bessie Storer Burk.
He was married April 24, 1949, in Logansport, to Madeline Merkert, who survives.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Burk served during World War II in the signal corps at Camp
Wheeler, Ga.
He had been employed at RBM Manufacturing and was the owner/proprietor of the former Burks
Sundries, 13th Street and Broadway.
Mr. Burk was a member of the American Legion Post #60, the Logansport Elks, and the Logansport
Evening Exchange Club. He also was member of First United Methodist Church.

Columbus - Madelin J. Burk, 88, of Columbus, formerly of Loganspport and summer resident
of Culver, passed away at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 at Four Seasons Retirement Center,
Columbus.
She was born Dec. 31, 1918 in Ora to
John and
Flossie (Piper) Merket.
On April 24, 1949 in Logansport, she married James Richard "Dick" Burk, who preceded
in death March 8, 2003.
She attended school in Leiters Ford and was a graduate of Leiters For High School.
For many years, Madeline owned and operated Madeline's Beauty Shop in Logansport.
In earlier years, Madeline had been very active in the Logansport community. She was a member
of the Logansport Elkettes and a member and past president of Logansport's Altrusa Club. She
also assisted with SCORE, the Srevice Corps of Retired Executives. Madeline was a memmber of
the First United Methodist Church of Logansport.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and their spouses: Carolyn and Gary Craig of Scottsdale,
Ariz.; Jim and Betsey Kinrough of Columbus; Melinda and Steve Scholl of Indianapolis; Melissa
and Bob Papas of FIshers; Ed and LeeAnn Merket of Chapman Lake; John and Elaine Merket of
Littleton, Colo., Jerry and Betty Kenner of Bloomington; Carol and Phil Wachter of Madiera Beach
Fla., and Janie Schneider of Logansport; sister-in-law, Helen Merket of Indianapolis; and a number
of great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Dorothy Kinbrough; and a brother Robert Merkert.
Visitation was Saturday, Aug. 4 from 10 to 11 at Kroger Funeral Home, 711 E. Market St., Logansport.
Funeral services were Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Shannon officiating.
Burial was at Mt. Hope cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or First United Methodist Church of Logansport.
