Dr. Francis W. Parker Jr., 86, died 9 a.m. Saturday at his home, Logansport.

Born in Pawnee City, Neb. to Francis W. and Mamie Calhoun Parker, he married Dr. Camille Killian on Dec. 7, 1958 in Logansport. She survives.

Dr. Parker graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1933 and Northwestern University Medical School in 1939. He worked at Cook County Hospital, Chicago before doing internship at Minneapolis General from 1940-41. He was certified for ear, nose and throat specialty in 1941 and Eye in 1942 at Northwestern. He was a U.S. Army veteran doctor from 1942-1945, serving in North Africa and Italy. He returned to Rockford, Ill. in 1945 to open a practice which he worked until 1958. He became an associate professor at Northwestern in 1945 and Board Certified by the American Academy of Opthalmology in 1947. In 1959 he opened his practice in Logansport and he retired in 1988.

Dr. Parker and his wife were instrumental in getting Logansport Memorial Hospital accredited and establishing its intensive care unit. They travelled world-wide in international medical exchange programs. He enjoyed reading, especially poetry and spending his weekends relaxing in Culver . He was a president of the Rotary Club in 1966. He was a member of the Logansport Elks Lodge, Logansport, the Masonic Temple, Rockford, Ill., Scottish Rite 32, Freeport, Ill., and Teballa Temple Shrine, Rockford, Ill.

Survivors include four sons, Francis W. Parker III “Bill” and wife Peggy, Van Nuys, Calif., David John and wife Lori Parker, Logansport, Clyde B. and wife Sharon Killian, Dubuque, Iowa, and Paul W. and wife Joelle Killian, Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Patricia A. and husband Ted, San Leandro, Calif.; grandchildren, Lauren and Allison Parker, Parker Strickland, Michael, Alanna, Paul , Philip and Eleanor Killian.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dale, Theron, Wick, and Clayton Parker and one sister, Miriam Stroup.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Logansport. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport, with f ull military honors.
