In the early 1800's my great grandfather Lyman Peter Foss and his wife Minerva Hershey
and other relatives came by wagon from Reading, Pennsylvania to the shores of Lake

Mrs. Rebecca Foss, of Yankeetown, Florida, former resident of this city, died suddenly at
her home on Tuesday evening from heart failure. She suffered but a few minutes before
she passed away.
She was 63 years of age, and was well-known in this city.
Her death came as a shock to her many friends. During her life in Lebanon she attended
the Salem Lutheran Church.
The body arrived in this city this morning and is now in the establishment of Ray E. Arnold
and Son, Undertakers of South Ninth Street.
She leaves as survivors, her husband, Scott Foss and five sisters, Lizzie Stoever, of Lebanon,
Mrs. Deuris of Mt, Zion, Mrs. Eliza Bensing of Fredericksburg, Mrs. David Hoffman of Hamlin

He learned the leather trade and worked with his father until the shop was sold to
D. H. Smith.
He then opereated the Boat and Bath house in Vandalia Park. Later he built boats for
Mr. Shorb who operated the Plamer House and rented boats to the patrons.
Later he worked for the street and police department of Culver. He was also a charter
member of the Culver Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. and bought one share of at par
value of $3.
He also was a member of the Knight of Pythias and a member of the Christain churc of
Winamac.

Death of Mrs. Foss
Mrs Monton Foss died on Friday of Tuberculosis. SHe was 29 years of age. She leaves three
little daughters and a son. They will be cared from by Mrs. Foss' sister of WInamac who will
keep house for Mr. Foss. A private funeral was held at thhe house, Rev. Imhof of the Christain
church officiationg. The burial was in the Culver cemetery. The sympathy of the community
will be extended to Mr. Foss in his afflicition.
Harriet L Foss daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cox, was born in Pulaski county Nov., 14 1887
and died in Culver Oct 19, 1917, at the age of 29 years 11 months, 5 days.
She was united in marriage to Monton H. Fozz Aug 12, 1905.
To this union were born fiive children- Vera, Helen, RUssell, Lucille and Veda. Lucille dying in
infancy.
Mrs. Foss united with the Christian church in 1905 and has been a faithful member.
Her parents, one baby, as sister and a brother having preceded her she leaves husband, for children,
two sisters - Mrs. Ada Gill of winamac and Mrs. Mabel BArden of Idaho - and a brother Grover Cox in
the U. S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas, besides a host of relatives and friends..
She has been a very devoted wife and mother and will alwyas be remembered by all who knew

Vera POLLEY, 74, formerly of Culver, died after a lengthy illness at 11:20 a.m.
Saturday at her home in Titusville, Fla.
She was born Aug. 20, 1908, in Marshall County to Monton and Ada COX FOSS. She
was a resident of Florida since 1969, moving from Chesterton. She was married
Sept. 15, 1927, in rochester to Ernest L. POLLEY. He died in 1971. She was a
member of the Chesterton Rebekah Lodge.
Survving are two sons, Nolan L. [POLLEY], Titusville, and Manson [POLLEY],
Medical Lake, Wash. four grandchildren; two sisters, Veda FITTERLING, Culver,
and Helen SMITH, Valparaiso, and a brother, Russell FOSS, Hammond.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bonine Funeral Home, Culver, the
Rev. Donald BOWMAN officiating. Burial will be at the Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Ada Foss Dies After Illness At Age of 80
Mrs Ada C. Foss, 80, formerly of Culver, who had been residing at the Maple Crest
Nursing Home, St. Johns Ind., died at 0 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at St. Margaret's
Hospital Hammond Ind., where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She
had been in failing helath for the past several years.
Mrs. Foss was born April 12, 1884 at Winamac, Ind. tp Alfred and Hulda (Taylor) Cox,
and was married in 1920 to Monton H. Foss who proceeded her in death in 1955.
She had lived in Culver most of her life, before going to St. John's in 1961.
Surviving are two sons: Gordon E. Foss and Russell Foss both of Hammonf, Ind.; three
daughters: Mrs. Helen Vendix, Michigan City, Ind. Mrs. Vera Polley, Chesterton, Ind. and
Mrs. Veda Fitterling of Culver. Fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also
survive.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sauturday, Sept. 12 at the Easterday-Bonine Funeral Home,
Culver, with Rev. Robert Leib, pastor of the Hessville Bible Church, Hammonf, officiating.
