    Capital City Man Creates Terror Reign

    Indianapolis, June 18 (AP) - Police said a 61-year-old construction engineer slashed his wife to death in their home today, then went to ohois son's home six miles away and shot and wounded the son and a grandson. Then he shot and killed himself.

    Police could give no motovie.

    The engineer was Alvin C. Rasmussen.

    State police found his body in the home of his son, James Rasmussen, 32. The son's home is at Oaklandon, about 12 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

    The younger Rasmussen and his son, James Jr.. were taken to hospitals, both with critical wounds.

    Mrs. Easmussen's body was found in her home at 5135 Central Avennue in Indianapolis.

    Officers who went to the son's home asked Indianapolis police to go to the father's home on Central avenue, and notify the family of there of the tradgey. The local officers entered the home in a fashionable northside residential district and found Mrs. Rasmussen's body.

    The son was brought to an Indianapolis hospital and the grandson was taken to Nillings Hospital at Fort Benjamin.

    Body Found by Police.

    Mrs. Rasmussen's body was found at the foot of a stairway. Her throat had been cut. Officers said she had apparently been attacked in an upstairs bedroom. Blood stains were on the bed.

    A hammer with which Mrs. Rasmussen apparently had been bludgeoned also was found in the house.

    Alvin C. Rasmussen was a retired army colonel. He had served in both Worled Wars I and II

    He was a former commander of the First Indiana logistical division, a recerve unit trained for supply planning in time of emergency.

    Kates Rasmussen told officers his father came to his home about 8:30 o'clock this morning.

    "He just started shooting", the son9 said.

    Mrs. Rasmussen, the son's wife, was slugged by her father-in-law before he ended his life. She suffered a cut on the head when she was hit with the butt of a .45 calidber pistol. She, too, was taken to a hospital for treatment of this injury.

    A seven-month-old baby of the younger Rasmussen lay unharmed in a crib. The wounded grandson is five years old.

    Officers said Rasmussen apparently had killed his wife some time before he went to the son's home as her body was cold and the blood had dried. - Kokomo Tribune Jan 13 1951


Three Capital Shooting Victims In Hospitals.
    Indianapolis - Two men and a boy remained in Critical conditions in Indianapolis hospitals - victims of two sensational shooting affrays which rocked the state capital within a five-day period.

    At Methodist Hospital tody, five-year old Jamie Rasmussen, and his father, James D. Rasmussen, Sr., 21, were reported "still critical: today of gunshot wounds suffered when the grandfather and father Alvin C. Rasmussen, a retired army colonel went beserk and apparently tried to kill his entire family.

    Rasmussen killed his wife, shot his son and grandson and slugged his daughter-in-law when she successfull prevented him from killing another granchild. He then killed himself...

    Rasmussen Rites Set for Tomorrow at Crown Hill
      Services for Alvin C. Rasmussen and his wife, Mrs. Helen Wood Rasmussen will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Shirley Brothers Chapel.

      Burial will in in Crown Hill.

      Mr. Rasmussen killed his wife at their home, 3135 Central Ave., Wednesday.

      He then drove to his son's home near Indiana Lake where he shot and wounded his son James Rasmussen and his grandson, Jamie before killing himself.

      Physicians said Mr. Rausmussen, a 61-year-old retired Army colonel and veteran engineer, was suffering a severe mental depression.

      Surviving with his son and grandson is another son, William; a granddaughter, Cathey, and Mr. Rasmussen's sister: Mrs. Emma Lytle and Miss Clara L Rasmussen, both of St. Louis and Mrs. Edna A. Noller, Menlo Park, Cal.

      Mrs. Rasmussen also is survived by her mother, Mrs. Anna A. Wood; and a sister Mrs. Marie Rush San Diego, Cal.; and an aunt, Miss Gertrude Douglas.


    Private Funeral RiItes For Col. and Mrs. Rasmussen
      Private funeral servics were conoducted Saturday in Indianapolis for Col. Alvin C. Rasmussen and his wife, Mrs. Helen Woods Rasmussen, Lake Maxinkuckee summer residents.

      Col. Rasmussen, a 61-year old retired Army officer and prominent heating contractor killed his wife at their Indianapolis home last Wednesday. He later shot and wounded his son, James Rasmussen and grandson, Jamie, before succumbing to self inflicted wounds.

      Said by physicians to have been suffering from severe mental depression, Rsamussen slashed his wife's throat with a knife about dawn on Wednesday. Police reports indicate he then drove to the home of his son and without warning shot his son and grandson.
