Dr. Joseph Stratton Bean  

Joe was great invovled with the Clan MacBean Genealogy. Clan MacBean has one of the genealogical compilations ... of John Bean of Exeter, and as the Clan MacBean of North America. And during the 1980's and 1990's (and probably earlier) he was invovled in revising and updating the genealogy books of the Clan MacBean which there where at least 4 volumes of. I was priveleage to get to know him and be one of his proof readers for the manuscripts.

Memorial services for Dr. Joseph Stratton Bean, 75, Culver , will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Episcopal Church.

He died at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born May 27,1923, in Rockville, he was the son of Oakley R. and Gladys J. Stratton Bean. On Dec. 28,1945, he was married in Greencastle to Mary Margaret Sheridan, who survives.

From 1949 to 1953, Dr. Bean was medical director of Indianapolis City Hospital, which later became Wishard Hospital. In 1958, he completed his radiology residency and board certification and became a founding partner of Associated Radiologists Inc., Logansport. He retired in 1980.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having service during World War II and the Korean War. He was a life member of the MilitaryOrder of World Wars.

He was a member of the American Medical Association and was a member and past president of both the Cass County Medical Society and the Fifth District Medical Society.

He was a member of the Indiana State Medical Society and the Radiological Society of North America.

He had been a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Green Valley Masonic Lodge in Green Valley, Ariz., and was a former member of the Logansport Rotary Club and Logansport Elks Lodge.

He was a member of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite.

From 1984 to 1998, he was a member of the board and vice president of genealogy for the Clan MacBean of North America Inc.

Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. John R. and Sara Bean, Lebanon, and James D. and Cindy Bean, Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Margaret (Megan) Sheridan, Brian Bean, Richard Bean, Rachael M. Bean, Andrew Stratton Bean, Kaley Rubecca Bean and Joseph Jamison Bean.

One son and daughter-in-law, George Stratton Bean and Mary Elizabeth Bean preceded in death.

Friends may.call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Father Douglas P. Johnson will officiate the service, and he also will officiate a committal service at 4 p.m. Saturday at Culver Masonic Cemetery

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or a favorite charity.
