Frederic Drompp Family
Since the summer of 1982 Frederick Grahs Drompp has been a permanent resident of
his home at 274 South Shore Drive on Lake Maxinkuckee, Culver. Prior to that time
he was a summer resident, living the rest of the year in Logansport at 2809 East
Broadway.
Frederic was born in Logansport on J uly 7, 1900, the second child and only son of
Caolena Grahs Drompp and Frederick Gottlieb Drompp. His only sibling was Esther Anna
Drompp Bollei.
Frederic attended the St. James Lutheran School in Logansport through the eighth grade,
after which he attended and graduated from Logansport High School in 1918. He then
enrolled at Purdue University and was graduated in 1922 with a degree in Elcetrical
Engineering.
While at Purdue, he was in the Army from September to December 1918. He is a member of
Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Purdue Chapter.
After his graduation from Purdue, he became engaged to his high school sweetheart and
Logansport neighbor, Dorothy Lucille Barnes. They were married on November 23, 1922 at
the home of her parents,

Lucile's family had a long history with Lake Maxinkuckee and in 1933 Frederick and Lucile
rented a cottage from Mrs. Curry Barnes on Long Point. In 1935 the Drommps purchased this
home, at what is now
880 West Shore Drive.
After spending 17 years in this cottage, they built his present home at
274 South Shore Drive and have spent
their summers there since that time.
After his graduation from Prudue, Frederick went to work for the James I. Barnes Construction
Company in Logansport, and his entire business career was with that company. In 1942 he became
general manager and part owner of the company until his retirement in 1965.
Lucile Barnes Drommp passed away on January 17, 1983. She and Frederick had celebrated their
60
th wedding anniversary on November 23, 1982. Three daughters were born to
Frederick and Lucile: Emily Caroline Drompp; Joan Barnes Drompp, and Jduith Barnes Drompp.
Carolyn is married to William Edward Morre and they live in Loganpsort. John and her husband,
William John Mc Afee, presently reside in Los Gatos, California. Judith is the wife of
Dr. John Kent Guild, who practices
medicine in Plymouth. There are 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. - Judy Guild.

Lucile Drompp, 82. 2809 E. Broadway, died Monday at 7:15 a.m. at Parkview Hospital, Plymouth.
Born in Logansport, Aug. 18, 1900, she was the daughter of James I. and Emily Englebrecht Barnes.
On Nov. 23, 1922, she was married to Frederick G. Drompp, who survives.
Surviving with the husband are three daughters, Carolyn Moore, Logansport; Joan McAfee, New
Canaan, Conn.; and Judy Guild, Plymouth; four sisters, Marjorie Sparling, Culver ; Doris Hillis,
Orlando, Fla.; Betty Muehlhausen, Culver ; and
Virginia Kniesly, Logansport; 12 grandchildren,
five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Two sisters preceded her in death.
Rites are pending at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Services for Lucile Drompp, 82, 2809 E. Broadway, will be at the Kroeger Funeral Home
Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev, A.W. Schubert officiating. Burial will be in
Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A sister , Emily Studebaker, Miami, Fla., also survives.
Mrs. Drompp was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church and Psi Iota Xi Sorority.

86, the father of Woodlawn Center Director Carolyn Moore.
Drompp, formerly of 2809 E. Broadway, died at 8 p.m. Saturday in Parkview Holy Cross
Hospital, Plymouth.
He had resided in Culver for several years.

Services for Frederick Grabs Drompp, 86, Culver , a former general manager and
partner with the Logansport-based James I Barnes Construction Co., will be held
at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Kroeger Funeral Home.
A former resident of 2809 E. Broadway, he died at 8 p m Saturday in Holy
Cross-Parkview Hospital, Plymouth
He was born J uly 7, 1900, in Logansport to Frederick G. and Emma C. Grabs
Drompp. He was married Nov. 23 1922 in Logansport to Lucille Barnes, who died
Jan. 17,1983.
He retired in 1965 from James I. Barnes. He had been employed with the company
since 1922 and was instrumental in the firm's expansion nationwide. He completed
several projects associated with all segments of the construction field, including
construction of The Matterhorn at Disneyland during a period when the construction
firm maintained an office in Los Angeles. He also was with the firm when it completed
the first four-level highway overpass in the world in Los Angeles. He had worked on
various public and private buildings across the nation including the Ball State
University Arts Building and numerous hospitals and public schools.
He was a graduate of Purdue University and a member of Kama Sigma fraternity.
He was a World War I U.S. Army veteran and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
He was a member of Plymouth Country Club and Logansport Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn "Crick" Moore 105 Longtree Ln., Joan McAfee,
Los Gates, Calif., and Judy Guild, Plymouth; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews. A sister preceded in death.
Pastor Marvin Hinkle will officiate the services. Burial will be in Barnes Circle, Mount
Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Kroeger Funeral Home.
