Esther B. McFarland



Esther B. McFARLAND, 96, of 730 School St., Culver, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Saturday at Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver.

Born June 22, 1907, in Fulton County to Harry and Flossie Bick Zartman, Esther married Russell McFarland on May 12, 1924. He passed away on May 23, 1963.

Esther was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Wakefield; her sons, Harry and Francis McFarland; her sister; three brothers; and special friend, Adrian Schlabach.

Esther and Russell owned Culver City Ice for 32 years. She was past president of Mothers of World War II in Culver. She moved from Culver to Plymouth in 1965. She returned to Culver in 1999.

Esther is survived by 17 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren and her brother, Lawrence Zartman, Colfax.

Her funeral service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, with the Revs. James Irwin and Ron Lewellen officiating. Burial is at Maxinkuckee IOOF Cemetery. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
