Russ McFarland, Age 69, Dies After Illness

Russell McFarland, 69, of 304 E. Jefferson Street, Culver, died at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, May 23,at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He had been in failing health several years.

Mr, McFarland was a retired laborer and a member of Maxinkuckee Odd Fellows Lodge, Culver V.F.W., Culver American Legion, and was a World War I veteran.

He was born May 14, 1894, in Culver and had been a resident of the Culver community all of his life. He was married May 12, 1924, to Esther Zartman ho survives.

Surviving with the wife are three children, Harry Russell, Francis G., and Mrs. Virginia. Wakefield , all of Culver; three brothers, Nye, of Jefferson City, Mo.; Dewey of Culver, and Welcome of Bass Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Houghton of Golden, Colo., and Miss Josephine Stevens of Culver; and 17 grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Poplar Grove Methodist Church, with Rev. Maynard Tittle and Rev. W. Ray Kuhn, officiating and interment was made in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

The Van Gilder Funeral Home in Culver was in charge of arrangements.
