Lake Maxinkuckee Its Intrigue History & Genealogy Culver, Marshall, Indiana

Clark I. Ferrier

Clark has long been identified with the lumber and builders supply business here, but to Flora, Ind., goes the honor of being his birth place. He came to Culver November 1898, and finished his grade school education here and was a member of the fourth class to be graduated from teh Culver High School. There were four in the class and all are living today. Clark continued his education at Tri-State Normal, Angola.

He then entered the lumber businees, being assoicated with his father J. O. Ferrier, here and managing a yard at Lakeville for five years. After four years on the road as a salesman he returned here to assume the active management of the Ferrier Lumber Co. This was in 1916.

Two happenings stand out in Clark's memory - a cyclone that destroyed his father's ice houses just 30 years agon, and the fire that swept through the lumber yard on April 21, 1923. He doesn't care to repeat either exerpience.

He has served a four-year term as a member of the local town board, is now president of the Chamber of Commerce, filled two terms as president of the Indiana Builders Supply Asscoiation, and was a committee chairman for four years in the National Builders Supply Association.

Having been a arthlete himself in his younger days, Clark has always taken an active interest in all athletics and has missed only a few basketball ganes played here through the years.

The picture shows him inspecting a furnance display in the Firrier Lumber Co., Office. - Culver Citizen Profile
