New Culver City Grain & Coal Co. Building  



1949 - Feb 23 - Announcing Grand opening for New Feed mill and Elevater


Farmers throughout this area will have the oportunity to attend the Grand Opening of the recently completed Feed Mill and Elevator of the Culver City Grain and Coal Company in the plans which were announced by Harry Medbourn and Sam Medbourn, proprietors.

Completion of the large modern structure is another step in the development of one of the oldest business organizations in the community of Culver and it represents the aim of Harry medbourn who has always made every effort to promote and make available the most efficient facilities for the farmers of the community

Current plans incude revamping the storafe facilities on the north end of the building with a street side loading platform.

The superstructure of the new mill towes nearly 80 feet above the shore line of Lake Maxinkukcee.

Constrcution was started in October, 1947 and operation of the new plant was inaugurated just recently.

The modern fireproof structure houses the latest equipment insuring fast and effiecient service to customers

The glass panels in the floor permit the customer to watch the interesting process of milling. Here one can watch the largest stock shellers shellign 1200 bushers per hour. The fascinatinge process is all the more intriguing when one considers that the grain is never touched by hands.

Automatic electric scales are used in wrighing. Unsual too, is the fact that the mill is heated.

An elevator shaft in the center of the building permits the personnel to go from the basement to the top of the 89 foot structure.

Undoubtedly it is one of the most modern in Northern Indiana
