Mrs. George Davis Dies of Influenza
Mrs Emm Anne Davis, age 76 years wife of George Davis died of influenza art her home Monday, Feb. 1st. Mrs David had lived in Culver for the past forty-four years.

She was take into the Methodist Episcopal church here about firty-five years ago during the ministry of Rev. F. O. Fralye

The surviving relatives are the widower, two daughters, Mrs. J. D. Heiser, of Culver, and Mrs. Leroy C. Hugg, of Chesterton, Ind; two sons, Rev. Harley A Davis of Monroeville, Ind. and Floyd E. Davis of Gary, Ind; one brother, ALmon Johnson of Monterey and one sister, Mrs. Ralph Decker of Douglass, Wyoming.

Funeral Servieces were held this afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. F. O. Fraley of Monom, assisted by the local minister, Rev. Richard Pengilly - 1937, Feb. 3 - Citizen


EMMA ANNE DAVIS
Emma Anne, daughter of George and Ellen Weiser Johnson, was born in the old Johnson homestead south of Culver in Fulton County, Dec. 13, 1860.

Here, with the large, jolly family, she grew to womanhood. At the age of ten years she was bereft of her father, but the brave pioneer mother kept the children together and raised them all to be clean and honorable men and women.

She departed this life Feb.1, 1937, age 76 years, 1 month, and 18 days.

On April 17, 1884 she was united in: marriage to George W. Davis in the old home by the Rev. Meredith. To this union were born five children, Harley Almon, Eva May, Carrie Ethel, Harry Elmer, and Floyd Eugene. Harry Elmer died: in infancy.

They established their home in Whitley county, where they lived about two years. All the rest of her life was spent near her old home and in Culver, where they moved in 1893.

On April 17, 1934 they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with their children and a host of friends.

In young womanhood she gave her heart to God in the old Ditmire School House and became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church. After moving to Culver she transferred her membership to the Culver M. E. church and as long as she was able, she attended and enjoyed their services.

Her whole life centered around her home and family. Her creed is well expressed in the words of the poet who said, "I live for those who love me, For those who know me true, For the heaven that shines bove me And the good that I can do."

She was never happier than when she was carrying some her flowers or something to her friends and neighbors. Her greatest pleasure in her later years was the visits of her children. She would always say, "I wish you didn't have to go" and "when will you be coming over again."

Her parents, three brothers, and five sisters preceded her to the heavenly home, leaving one brother, Almon Johnson, of Monterey, one sister, Mrs. Belle Decker, Casper, Wyoming.

Besides her husband and. children. she leaves eleven grandchildren, Martha Jane, Ted, Norma, Joyce, and Joan Davis, Dale and George Hoff, Erma Rose, Joe; David, and Robert Heiser, and 33 nieces and nephews, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Culver Wednesday afternoon, February 3, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Richard Pengilly, assisted by the Rev. S. A. Mow, of Westfield, a nephew and the Rev. F. O. Frailey, of Monon, a former pastor, who delivered the sermon. Six nephews acted as pail bearers and six nieces as flower girls.

Interment was in I. 0. 0. F. cemetery at Monterey. = Culver Citizen February 10, 1937

George Washington Davis, son of William and Anneliza Davis was born in Carryville Ohio, February 13, 1860.

When two years of age he came with his parents and other relatives in covered wagon to Indiana and located in Fulton County.

His father was a Methodist minister and conducted revival services in many of the churches and school houses in this vicinity. In 1887 God called the father home and the son took his place to help provide a home for the mother. Two sons, Jasper N. and George W., and three daughters, Mary J., Cordelia, and Ada B., were born in that home and now the family circle is unbroken in the Heavenly home.

On April 17, 1884, he was united in marriage to Emma A. Johnson. To this union was born three sons Harley A. of Fort Wayne, Floyd E. of Gary, Harry who died in infancy and two daughters, Carrie E. of Chesterton and Eva M. of Culver.

In 1882 he joined the Wesleyan Methodist church and was baptized by immersion in the Tippecanoe river at Ditmire's Ford. After he moved to Culver he transferred his membership to Culver. M. E. Church during the pastorate of Rev. F. O. Fraley. Because of ill helath he was not able to attend church services for several years but he enjoyed the visits of God's people and was greatly interested in the work of his son, the Rev. Harley Davis.

A great part of his last days was spent in talking of his trust in God. His favorite song was "I've Anchored My Soul in the Haven of Rest," and he faintly repeated it to his children on Saturday evening.

On April 15, 1934, the golden wedding anniversary was celebrated in the family home in Culver with all the children and grandchildren and many relatives and friends present.

On February 1, 1937, the angel of death came to the home and the mother went to her eternal rest. Mr. Davis then went to make his home with his daughter, Eva, and family three miles northwest of Culver.

He enjoyed occasional visits with his other daughter and his sons.

His health was very poor but he was always glad when relatives or friends came in for a visit.

He leaves besides his children ten grandchildren, Martha Jane Davis Lakey of Fort Wayne, Erma Rose Heiser Slonaker, Rochester; Joe and David Heiser, Culver; Dale and George Hoff, Chesterton, Ted, Norma Joyce, and Joan Davis, Gary; two great-grandchildren, Dean Allen Slonaker and Kaye Annette Lakey, and many other relatives.

One grandson, Robert Keith Heiser, preceded his grandfather just three weeks so again "Bobby" could open the door for Grandpa.

He passed away in the Heiser home Monday evening at 7 p. m., July 29, 1940, at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 16 days.

The funeral services were conducted in the Culver Evangelical church at 2 p. m., Thursday afternoon by the Rev. R. L. Haley, assisted by Dr. F. L. Movis.

Burial was made in the Monterey Protestant cemetery.
