John William Stealy
John William Stealy, 72, of Culver , Indiana, died at 1:08PM on Thursday, June 2, 2005, at St.
Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, Indiana.
John was born on June 27, 1932, to John Franklin and Catherine Rosalie (Weaver) Stealy at
Elkhart, Indiana. He was married on December 13, 1952, at Wichita, Kansas, to Patricia Ann
Smith. She survives.
He is also survived by his loving sons: Franklin Clay (Donna Marie) Stealy and Dan William
Steay of Culver , Indiana; daughter: Cathy (Steven Hoesel) Epley of Culver , Indiana; brother:
Ralph Wayne Stealy of Elkhart, Indiana; and grandchildren: Brittney Anne, Brooke Ellyn, and
Lindsey Elizabeth Epley, Danielle Marie and Jason Clay Stealy.
There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 3:00PM at
the Wesley United Methodist Church, 511 School Street, Culver , Indiana. - Plymouth Pilot
John was born to John Franklin Stealy and Catherine Rosalie (Weaver) Stealy of Wakarusa on June 27, 1932, in Elkhart.
John graduated from Elkhart High School in 1952, with Patricia Ann Smith, whom he married on Dec. 13, 1952. They
their marriage in Wichita, Kan., while John was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. They then moved to Alaska and Illinois
with the Air Force, prior to returning home to Elkhart to raise their family. John and Patricia were members of The
Simpson Methodist Church of Elkhart.
In 1966, John moved his family to Culver , where he operated PJ's Pier Boat Rentals until 1979. John then moved to
Goshen, where he owned and operated Perri's Package Store and Stealy's Town and Country Package Inc. in Culver .
He was a member of the Culver Chamber of Commerce and in his free time, enjoyed Lake Maxinkuckee and Culver
with his family and many hobbies and sports, including fishing, golf, gardening and cooking.
While living in Goshen, John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Maplecrest Country Club, The Goshen
Moose Lodge, the Goshen Masonic Lodge, including Shriners, Scottish Rite and Eastern Star.
John will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.
He will be fondly remembered for his humor, kindness, generosity, and wisdom, as well as his loyalty to his family and
friends, and loving care for their lives and families.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Stealy of Culver ; sons Franklin Clay (Donna Marie) Stealy and Dan William Stealy
of Culver ; daughter Cathy (Steven Hoesel) Epley of Culver ; granddaughters Brittney Anne Epley, Brooke Ellyn Epley,
Lindsey Elizabeth Epley and Danielle Marie Stealy; grandson Jason Clay Stealy; and brother Ralph Wayne Stealy of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no visitation at this time, though family and friends are welcome and invited to attend a memorial service for
John on Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 3 p.m. The service will take place at The Wesley United Methodist Church, School
Street, Culver . A gathering of the celebration of John's life will follow the service.
