Fred Hillis Named Cass Health Officer
Dr. Fredrick A. Hillis today succeeded his father as county health officer. |

Dr. Hillis, 1210 Michigan Ave., a surgeon, was appointed to the position
Wednesday night by the Cass County Board of Health immediately after it
accepted the resignation of Dr. Lowell J. Hillis.
No other names were presented for consideration by the board. The
appointment to complete the unexpired term of the elder Hillis, ending
Dec. 31, 1981, is subject to approval of the State Board of Health.
County health officer appointments are for four-year terms. The elder
Hillis had been health officer 20 years when he resigned, effective

The new county health officer opened a surgical practice here July 1, 1977.
A 1963 graduate of Logansport High School, he received his M. D. degree
from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1970 and worked his residency
in surgery at the Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, from 1971 to 1975.
He was in the Air Force from July, 1975, until June, 1977.
He is a member of the Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the AMA,
the Indiana Medical Association, Phi Chi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, He is in the
Candidate Group of the American College of Surgeons.
He and his wife, Shelley, have two children, Erin and Lisa. - Logansport Pharos
