REV. ARTHUR E. GIVENS, 82, died Monday at Caylor-Nickel Medical Center, Bluffton.

Born in Hamilton County, he served churches as an ordained elder in the Northern Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church for 52 years.

His wife, Helen E., died in 1996. Surviving are three sons, Larry and Mark, both of Fort Wayne, and Guy of Wabash; a brother, Hanson of Minneapolis; two sisters, Audrey Hinshaw of New Castle and Neva Goul of Anderson; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a stepgrandchild.

Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church, Wabash. Helen Elizabeth Givens, 82, of United Methodist Memorial Home of Warren, IN, died Monday, Dec. 16, 1996 at the home's Health Center in Warren.

She was born Nov. 17, 1914 in Wabash County to Guy T. and Rosa (Haupert) Friermood. She married the Rev. Arthur E. Givens July 25, 1934 in Wabash, IN.

Mrs. Givens was a member of the Wabash Christ United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and served, along with her husband, under conference appointment in the United Methodist Church a total of 52 years. She was a graduate of Somerset High School and attended Taylor University. She had lived at the United Methodist Memorial Home for six and one-half years, coming from Wabash.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Arthur E. Givens of Warren, IN; sons Larry Givens and Mark Givens, both of Fort Wayne and Guy Givens of Wabash; a brother, Max Friermood of Wabash; a sister Mrs. Peter (Bonnie) Schultz of Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren, one step grandchild; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral service was held Wednesday (today) afternoon, 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Wabash, with the Rev. Donald Crabill officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Preferred memorials are to Wabash Christ United Church or to the United Methodist Memorial Home of Warren, IN.
