James Arthur Grund

James Arthur Grund, 93, of Peru, died on Friday, Oct. 26 at his residence.
Born on Jan. 8, 1919 in Logansport, he was the son of
Arthur and Charlotte Chrismond
Grund.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years,
Constance Hurst Grund.
James graduated from Peru High School in 1938. He attended the University of Michigan, where
he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He then graduated from the Indiana U
niversity Law School in 1949.
He practiced law with his father-in-law, Hurd J. Hurst, in the Hurst and Grund Law Firm. James
Hurst Grund, who preceded his father in death, joined his ather in the Grund and Grund Law Firm.
James was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court in Indiana.
He served as Peru City Judge from 1960-68, served as Deputy Miami County Prosecuting Attorney from
1971-78 and as Miami County Prosecuting Attorney from 1978-82. He also served as Miami County
Attorney from 1969-99.
James was a member of the First Christian Church, Miami Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association,
Life Member of Elks Lodge and Indiana University Alumnae Association.
He loved his lake home on Lake Maxinkuckee, where he spent tiime with his family. He was a wonderful
husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Constance Hurst Grund; a son, Jeffrey [Karen] Grund of Carmel; a daughter,
Jane [Fred] Allen of Winamac; six grandchildren: Jama [Andrew] Lidral of Iowa, Judge James [Shawna]
Grund of Peru, Kama K. Grund, James D. Grund of Carmel, Bradferd [Meghan] Allen of Winamac and Drew J. '
Allen of Mary Esther, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren: Joseph, Hannah and Erin Lidral, Mallori and
Maci Grund and Addison and Chase Allen.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Hurst Grund; and a sister, Maxine Dice.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 29 at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home in Peru. Burial with a military
service by the Miami County Military Rites Team followed
at the Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Miami County Military Rites Team or the First Christian Church.
