From the Logansport Daily Journal page 3 dated Aug. 27, 1882:
All the preliminaries for the extension of the Logansport branch of the
Vandalia railway
to Lake Michigan have been satisfactorily adjusted, and upon compliiance with a few
easy conditions the contact will be closed, and the work will be commenced and
pushed to completion.
Readers of the Journal are familiar with the route of this line to Marmont (Maxinkuckee),
and will have no difficulty in following it to South Bend and the lake...
With these advantages before them, our citizens are asked to consider one of the
conditions above named, which condition is that the right of way shall be furnished
free to the new line thorugh our county. The estimated cost of this right of way is
from $7,000 to $10,000 and it is proposed to raise the amount by subscription. A
consideraable portion of this subscription has already been secured, and a committee
appointed for that purpose will make an effort to raise the remainder during the
present week...
1883 - Oct 6 - The.Vandaiia railroad company commenced laying iron at Marmount a d
ay or two ago, and-withln a short time the tract will be completed from Maxinkuckee
lake to the Nickle Plate railroad, a distance of about three miles,- Logansport Pharos

Land acquisition for this began with the railroad right way along the west shore from Washington Street to Jefferson Street
including the railroad property along the Farm Bureau co-op
This included the railroad right-of-way (a tressell/bridge that allowed the trains to go above the access road entrance at
he end of E. Washington Street; the access alley/road on the lake edge [fire or emergency easement] went into the
park and also down along the lake edge to the south towards the co-op property which was not used much and had
become over grown in the 1960's to 1970's, the access alley or cinder street that connected Jefferson & East
Washington
The Harbor encompasses what was Lots 6, 7, 8, 9, that fronted Washington Street and a part of Lot 10 which was a
part of the Ferrier Lumber Yard of the T. H. Harris Addition of Culver all of what was the railroad bed and the lake front
access road and property
1980 - Washington Street easement is under consideration as proposed by John Deery owner of that
access to the lake and park.
Records in the secretary of state's office show that Harbour Development Co. Inc. was registered Dec. 31, 1981, by
John J. Deery and Alfred E. McClure.

What Happened?
for some financial dealings concerning the project
In 1983/4 David B. Burns constructed the retaining wall or seawall along the shoreline of the
Harbour property.
|
Started in 1979 with building continued in 1984 and finished probably by 1985 the first Condominium
on the lake. |
It was started by
John J. Deery
possibly David Feagler (a lawyer from Plymouth) and several other investors and several other people
and trouble hit the corporation. Charles Edgington and other people stepped in and picked up the
pieces and finished the project.
Found in the 21 Sep 1983 Culver Citizen is:
Culver 's plan commission met last Wednesday in a special meeting and approved Harbor Condominiums'
expansion of its originally planned 18 units to 20 units. At issue was the alley connecting the
planned condos to Washington Street. Attorney Jim Easterday told the commmission the alley was never
dedicated, making it city property. At the request of Jean Williams, Harbor agreed to submit a written
document agreeing to maintain the alley, which will remain public property.
Harbour Condominiums ("Harbour") is the owner of real property with 245.38 feet of frontage on the
western shore of Lake Maxinkuckee. The property owned by Harbour includes a 20-unit condominium
complex.
1985-1986 no listings in the lake directory - but was to have been completed in 1986.
In 2005 Charles Blazevich is an owner of a condominium that is part of Harbour, and he is
the President of the Harbour Condominium Association.

Builders: Market ripe for condos
By Mark Fagan (Contact)
Sunday, April 2, 2006
Phil Harrison is comfortable with the arrangement. He and his wife, Beth, already own two condos elsewhere: one on the
beach in Naples, Fla., and another at The Harbour on Lake Maxinkuckee in Indiana,...
The Harrisons recently bought a unit at Bella Sera and are looking forward to the day they can sell their home of 28 years
on St. Andrews Drive.
“I’ve been taking care of a yard f ull of chiggers for a long time,” said Phil Harrison, former president and
managing broker for Gill Real Estate and Insurance in Lawrence. “By pooling our ownership with other people, we can have a
fancier exercise facility and a bigger pool, and we don’t have to worry about taking care of it.”
