Randall "Randy" Lee Nickell

WHEATON, IL - Randall "Randy" Lee Nickell, 59, of Wheaton, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at his home.

Randy was born July 19, 1955, in Springfield, Ill., the son of Thomas Andrew and Annabel Ogan Nickell. He married Kathy Anna Culver on Aug. 12, 1978, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Ill.

Randy was very proud of earning his Eagle Scout from Troop 11 at Westminister Presbyterian Church in 1973. He instilled a love for scouting in his two sons, who both earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was baptized, confirmed and married at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he met and fell in love with his wife of 37 years. Randy earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) Fraternity. His father, Tom, and son, Christopher, were also members of Phi Gamma Delta.

During his time in Dallas he also was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason, and was a member of a masonic lodge for 32 years. He became a York Rite and Knights Templar Mason in 2009. Randy was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, Ill. During the summer months, Randy loved to travel to Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, Ind., where he spent time with his family on the boat and was often seen riding on his waverunner.

He was an avid genealogist and had just traced his own and his wife's lineage back to the American Revolution for entry into both the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. Perhaps his most proud task was tracing his wife, Kathy, all the way back to the Mayflower, earning her a spot in the Society of Mayflower Descendants.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy Nickell; two sons, David (Katharine) and Christopher (Kaitlyn); and his mother, Ann Nickell. Randy also leaves behind his beloved Bichon- Frise, Nicky, who will truly miss Randy's companionship. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas A. Nickell.

Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton, IL 60187 (one black east of Naperville Rd).
