Scott William Scheurer  



Scott William Scheurer, age 72, of Hobart, passed away January 30, 2017.

He was born to Hortense and William Scheurer in Gary's Mercy Hospital on February 16, 1944. Scott was a Varsity swimmer at Horace Mann High School and graduated in 1962. After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in business in 1967, he served in the U.S. Army from August 14, 1967 to August 13, 1969, earning a Purple Heart in Vietnam.

After working as a shift supervisor at USS Steel from 1969 to 1974, Scott retired with a medical disability. Scott was a long term member of the Hobart Elks Lodge #1152, where he worked as a member of the House Committee and was installed as Chaplain in 2004. An avid golfer and billiards player, Scott loved the water and kept a boat on Lake Michigan until he moved it to Lake Maxinkuckee when he bought his beloved lakefront condominium in Culver.

He was also a die hard Chicago Cubs fan and avid follower of Indiana University basketball. Music was his passion, especially the Beach Boys era. Scott is survived by his sisters, Carol (James) Davidson and Holly (Charles) Self.

Funeral service for Scott will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart.

Friends may visit with his family on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with an Elks Service at 6:00 p.m.

Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
